Food Allergy

Stupid Question

Okay ladies, we're newly diagnosed and I'm still learning the ropes.  We're allergic to milk. If a product contains buttermilk, is it out? TIA!!

Re: Stupid Question

  • Yup, it's out. Other things to look for are whey and caesin.

  • Yes.  You're going to need to avoid all dairy products.  This means butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt, cream cheese, etc.  It's hard at first.  I think the hardest part for me was finding a milk substitute.  I found I liked chocolate almond milk, but I can't drink it because of her nut allergy.

  • I learned a lot from godairyfree.org.  If I had questions when we were out and about a quick google search for the specifics sometimes helped.  I wish you good luck!

  • Have your pedi or allergist give the the list for alternative names for dairy that way when you're looking at ingredients you can spot the hidden diary.
