It's been three days since Connor started crawling and I'm more exhausted than I've ever been... he also just started pulling up in his crib last night too. Besides basic baby proofing, what kind of set up do you ladies have that allows you to actually get things done around the house now that your babies are mobile?
I'm starting to feel like I need a play pen, jumper and swing in the basement as well as the living room off the kitchen now! There's no way I can constantly be hauling these big items all over the house whenever I need to put him down or need a break from sitting on the floor with him and constantly pulling him away from bonking his head on walls, etc.
There must be a way to do this! Please share your tips!
Re: Crawling/pulling up = can't get anything done!
DS has been crawling for two months and it hasn't been such a problem... but he just started pulling up in the last few days and it is awful! lol
I have to watch him every second and he cries if I take him away from the furniture he can pull up onto. I put his playmat next to the couch so he could practice pulling up and getting back down, but he is too scared to, so he just holds on forever or until I move him. UGH
Our first floor is all open concept, so we bought a 13ft. barrier with gate that blocks off the living room (where all their toys/crap is) from the kitchen/great room. The floor is covered with foam tiles from Walmart (easier to clean and cushier than carpet/tile). I put them in there when I need to get stuff done and at least I know they're reletively safe and contained.
I couldn't handle them crawling, rolling and pulling up on everything on the main floor anymore. I was losing my frigging mind and couldn't get anything accomplished. Our house is horribly ugly now with the giant barrier but at least the twins are safe(er). My living room looks like a TRU/BRU warehouse now
where did you get the barrier? is it an extra long baby gate?
BRU. It's this one. We had to improvise with a piece of furniture to make it 13ft. It's ugly but it gets the job done and keeps my sanity in check.
PnP, swing, and jumper, like you said. That's basically the three options to keep him in one place if I can't watch him closely. Or I just put him in his high chair and pull him around with me in the kitchen while I cook/do dishes. Otherwise, I have to be able to drop whatever I'm doing to redirect him or stop him from getting into things or pulling up on/around something unsafe. Thankfully we have carpet everywhere except the kitchen. I cannot imagine having hard floors with a baby crawling/pulling up. He wipes out all the time but it doesn't seem to phase him since he's on the carpet and has kind of learned how to fall.
I don't have one, but this was suggested to me by a friend of mine who has one. It has extra panels you can add to make it bigger.
Do you have a carrier? Carriers were a life-saver for me at that stage. Okay, at each stage.

ETA: If I really need to do something where she's out of my sight, I use the PnP or her Exersaucer. We love them!
