Can I go in my pool?

Is there a certain amount of time I should be waiting before I go in my pool? I didn't think to ask my OB this before leaving the hospital.

Re: Can I go in my pool?

  • I think I heard it was 6 weeks for a c-section but no restriction for vaginal.

  • My instructions state that I can't have a tub bath for 6 weeks, so I assumed that carried over to pools as well. This is just an assumption. I didn't ask my doctor.

  • I wouldn't right now, but I'm still bleeding off and on, and my stitches still sting pretty bad. If it hurts to pee, I don't think chlorine would feel awesome!

I don't know if there are any actual restrictions though? I would think if you're pretty healed up it would be ok.

  • I had a vaginal birth and was told no baths, hot tubs, or pools for 6 weeks.

same here but i went swimming as soon as i stopped bleeding last week. my vagina is not a vacuum- it will not suck the tub or pool water up inside me! Swimming felt great!

  • You should not go in the pool until your bleeding has stopped. You cannot wear a tampon so you would be bleeding in the pool water which is really unsanitary. I have no clue if it is bad for your body, though. But, call your doctor and see what they say. My doctor only said no baths b/c of my c-section. I imagine if you do not have stitches anywhere (c section or vaginal) that you could take a bath, but I have no clue.

  • I was told no bath/swimming for 2 weeks. I was still bleeding at 14 days PP though, so I wouldn't have even thought of it yet...

Ha ha, didn't think about the bleeding issue!

I had a vaginal delivery and a second degree tear and was advised to take baths (sitz baths, but was told full baths were fine too).

My MW told me two weeks recovery for my stitches, but I agree that if you're still bleeding, the pool might not be the best option!
