LO is 14 months (11 corrected). He has a high fever friday (up to 104). His fever is gone now with ibuprofen and tylenol given but he has a cough now. It is disrupting his sleep and of course the pedi office is closed til tuesday. What are people's experience with medicating for coughs. I know that Honey is ok for a 12 month old but not sure he qualifies since he is only 11 months corrected.
thanks for any help you can give
Re: sick for the first time
The "under a year" thing is because of honey can contain spores of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, which can germinate in a baby's immature digestive system and cause infant botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness.
If you feed him pasturized honey, then this is honey that has been heated enough to kill any bacteria, so it's safe to feed an "under 1-year-older".
Most of the commerically sold honey in stores is pasturized. Farmer's market type honey usually is not.
