okay so, the more i read online about the symptoms i have been experiencing (preterm contractions-ALL THE TIME, every singly day-, backpain, pressure in my pelvis, etc) the more i think that i most likely have what is known as an irritable uterus. I feel like no matter WHAT i do i am contracting, i have been on bedrest for a week now after spending two nights in the hospital for contractions and back pain and have another two weeks of BR to go - as of now i have a negative fetal fibronectin but my dr. doesn't want to trust solely that test as no test are 100% and he also told me that these contractions could lead to true preterm labor. I am just wondering if anyone else has an irritable uterus and could share their stories/experience? I have no idea what to expect as far as the rest of my pregnancy, should i anticipate being on bedrest until the baby is here? should i anticipate at least being out of work? I cant imagine working 12.5 hour shifts at the hospital like this-The other day i had a few dr's appointments so i was out and about and walking around and i was having awful contractions- it felt like i was in labor, it was AWFUL, i attempted to walk around the grocery store for 10 minutes with DH before i went home and got back in bed and i couldn't even make it through the store i had to go back out to the car. This is so tiring! it feels like i am going into labor like 4 times a day, i am so drained, my back is killing me and the contractions (which can last for up to 3 hours at a time coming every 4 minutes) are so painful and relentless. Has anyone else had experience with this?? please share your stories/suggestions on what i can do. The doctor hasn't said outright that i have an "irritable uterus" but i really think there is no other explanation for this. I hae a prescription for procardia but don't know how i feel about taking a blood pressure medicine to stop my contractions- my blood pressure usually runs pretty low and i don't want to risk taking it too low.
Re: irritable uterus?
My friend has an irritable uterus and she is pregnant with her 3rd. With her first two she had really early contractions very consistently throughout her pregnancies, but she was never on bedrest or anything like that. With this one, they have been worse. She was hospitalized overnight b/c her doctor was concerned that the constant contractions (4 mins apart at one point) would cause her to dilate. She also had an ultrasound and found that her cervix was shortening already. She was given meds through her IV and then sent home the next day since they stopped. She is not on bedrest now, but she takes Procardia every six hours and has had success so far with that. Hope this helps!
