Cloth Diapering

Uh, I somehow won a custom TT slot...

I didn't expect to win, but threw my lucky number in as a guess on their Facebook giveaway... and won. My initial reaction was to decline the slot, but my husband said to go ahead and order something if they're as good as everyone says they are.

So now I need help. Do I order serged or T&T? Knit or woven? What fabric do I choose?

Ah, clearly I want something gender neutral as I'm not even pregnant yet (which my optimistic self is saying this must be a sign that this cycle will work! haha). I also don't want to choose something that's known for fading or pilling quickly, which I know some fabrics are.

Anyway, here is the link to their online album of custom prints available

HELP! Please? :)

Re: Uh, I somehow won a custom TT slot...

  • Wow! That is awesome.. I would probably do Gloom and Doom or Gnome Sweet Gnome. (But I have a thing for gnomes.) I would order T&T.

  • I have definitely become a fan of knits. My woven (in another brand) is pretty but I really like the way knits stretch for a better fit. That said I only have one TT and it's girly so I can't give a reccommendation on what holds up well, I'm sure someone else can help though!

  • Yay (totally a sign)!  I was wondering if you were a bumpie!  The only advice I have is probably to pick a knit as it stretches better for a fitted.  Doom and Gloom is a great gender neutral choice but mine is OTW so I can't say if it fades or is pilly.  Let us know what you decide!

  • "Doom and Gloom" is super cute! I definitely added it to my consideration list :) I lurve "Animal Roll Coll" but it's a woven right? Isn't the consensus that knit is preferred?

  • Congrats! I'm verrry jealous.

I prefer T&T. As for the print... I like a lot of them. How about Guardians? I love my Elephantastic print, but I don't see that listed so she must be out of it (or I didn't look carefully- which is entirely possible).

  • Congrats and good luck this cycle!  I would do T&T because I think that they look nicer.  I like Guardians (green owls) or Bubble Bath (rubber ducks) to keep it gender neutral.

  • I really like "Indigo Owls" and think they're stocking it next week. Can I only choose from the ones in the custom album or can I ask about that print do you think? (Probably wishful thinking, huh?)

ETA: The more I look at "Doom and Gloom" the more I like it! I am leaning towards that now but will let my husband ultimately pick since he's the one pushing this idea, ha.

Any reason why T&T is preferred other than looks?

  • I would do a TT. I am not sure about knit or woven. Maybe some of the vets can help with that.

I really like Earth Babies. It may not exactly be gender neutral, but it's cute!

Congrats on winning. My number was way to high. Oh well.

    CoolYes

I have an alternate Facebook account that I use to "like" baby related websites/products (mostly cloth diaper sites) so that it doesn't appear on my regular Facebook and people won't ask questions. Hopefully it's obvious that my last name isn't actually "TTC".

  • Some LO's are sensitive to the serging rubbing on their legs once they become mobile. Others don't have a problem.

  • I love serged diapers in general.  I regret getting so many T&T.  The edges on T&T wear SO much faster & get holes over time & with the rigorous washing routine of CDs.  T&T serged are awesome.  I wish my whole stash was serged.

The potential negative to serged is some babies get irritation on their thighs from the serging.  DD has super chubby thighs & we've never had this issue at all, in fact the turned seem to irritate her thighs actually.

TT has SO many cute prints.  Just pick something you love.  Congrats!

  • Congrats =)
I personally love the blue owls (Usual Suspects) the greeny grey owls (Guardian) and Earth Babies. Would put any of those on a boy or girl, but that's just me.

  • Just wanted to say congrats! And that I'm jealous. We just got our first TT and looove it. We are trying for more during the hp stocking. Have fun choosing your print. We have a T&T style but have never tried serged before.

  • I'm a huge fan of TT's serged diapers.  I feel like they have more stretch, which is great for older/bigger babies.  I've got 6 TTs and they're 50/50 T&T vs. serged.  I would totally switch them all to serged if I had the option.

One of my favorite prints of hers is Truck Stop Special, which is totally gender neutral, but pretty quirky.  It wears SO well.  We've washed ours every other day for probably 6 months and it looks brand new.  Really - no pilling, fading, wear at all.  Love it.

I have Animal Roll Call and LOVE it :) I actually prefer wovens to knits (they hold up better, IMO) but most people would recommend knits.

I felt a little crazy when I made mine at first, but I've had it for about 3 months and now know SO many TTCers/Bumpies that have them for the same reason.

Ah, this is cute! I just looked at the larger image of it. I kept skipping over it in the thumbnail lineup because I thought those were traffic cones/signs!

  • Congrats on winning!  I thought I recognized that picture :)

I just wanted to say that I have Doom & Gloom from another WAHM and I love it!  I have only had it for a short time so it hasn't been washed a whole bunch, but so far I haven't noticed any fading, pilling, etc.  It is so cute IRL, especially if you get a great cut (which you will with a TT).

Also, I'm jealous.  I really want a TT!

Awesome. I haven't noticed any wear at all yet and it has been washed at least 5-6 times. That is honestly why I prefer woven.

Gretchen knows what she's talking about.  If she says don't do woven serged, don't do it!  :)

  • Congrats!  We love our TT's...DD is in our Sesame Street print (Bestest Friends) tonight - it's a waffle knit with rust OBV and it's great, and DS is in our Yoda Strikes Back, which is a woven.  I personally prefer knit T&Ts.  Best of luck with this cycle :)

  • I have guardians and I love it! Nevermore is awesome, too. It's the softest knit! I prefer serged and knit because I can get a better fit. I haven't tried a new style serged yet, but I have one on the way. As far as serged on a woven, I think the reason it isn't a good idea because the fabric can fray.

  • Congrats! I totally forgot to put a number in that contest today, but I'm glad a bumpie won it :)

I would definitely do a knit. I like the fit and feel of knits so much better than wovens that I don't think I'll get a woven fitted - no matter how much I like the print.

Now that I think about it, maybe T&T is more for the look of the diaper (for us). DD doesn't get irritated by serged. Also, the TT diapers are already so fluffy maybe the serged ones will have a trimmer fit when folded down. It's something to consider.

I love the Open Night Mike print. I would put it on my DD in a heartbeat. I have a NB diaper in this fabric from another maker but I haven't used it so I don't know how it wears. I also also think Dino Parade and Teasure Island are GN and super cute. I have both of those but haven't started using them yet either. GL on your decision :)

  • How exciting! I have yet to try a TT so I'm totally jealous, but happy for you! I actually like all the prints that the PPs have mentioned so you definitely have a tough decision (although a fun one as far as tough decisions go). Congrats and good luck on this cycle. It must be a sign!

Just stopping by to congratulate you! And say I think that it's definitely a sign!! :) T&P for you! I don't have any advice to give you, since I don't actually own any of their dipes. Have fun picking it out!!

  • Okay, I think we're going with "Truck Stop Special" because it's super cute and the feedback on it washing so well. In the photo she has online, the edges are serged but it looks like a woven to me. I am guessing my fabric judging skills are off? :)

  • Yep - it's a knit and I have it in a serged dipe.  Truly love that diaper (and oddly enough it's my son's favorite, too - he always asks to wear "coffees").

How pathetic is it that I feel proud that you picked my fabric selection?  :P
