Do you swaddle every time? Swaddling seems to help him go to sleep but I'm starting to doubt it's really the swaddling...during the day it seems like he just won't nap/sleep during the day, every time he falls asleep on me (after a feeding or by me rocking him etc) but as soon as I put him down on his pack 'n play or swing he wakes up, he won't stay asleep for more than 10 min. I've tried swaddling him during the day and same thing, he won't stay asleep, however at night he'll sleep a 2-3 hours stretch while swaddled...I just want him to sleep during the day so I can sleep a little too, he only sleep about 3 blocks of 2 or 3 hours the most during the night, that's it! I've known babies that you have to wake them up to sleep! why won't my baby sleep?!
Re: Why won't my baby sleep?!
Steph, I paged you on the C-bus board a few days ago
Have you tried putting him down drowsy, instead of fully asleep. If I put my LO down fully asleep it always wakes him, but if he is drowsy, just starting yawning and droopy eyes, he usually nods right off a little after I lay him down.
also, I do escape proof swaddle at night, and regular swaddle for naps. He is always startling himself with his hands otherwise,
I put him on his belly for naps. He sleeps wonderfully this way, and I'm comfortable with it because I can keep an eye on him. I've never swaddled -- the few times I've tried he seems to really hate it.
The drowsy-but-awake idea is good, too.
I started putting LO to sleep on his belly last week and he sleeps amazingly- I know it's 'bad' but we are both so much better rested.
I thought of this, my mother said "I wouldn't want to sleep on that pack 'n play either!" lol

I'm nervous about putting him on his belly especially since I'd like him to nap so I can nap so I wouldn't be keeping an eye on him, but I'll give it try for when I know I can watch him.

I also had issues with my daughter sleeping in the beginning. The swaddling seemed to work for the first couple of weeks at night. I also read somewhere on the internet that it takes them about 20 minutes for babies to fall into a deep sleep so I would hold her for about 20 minutes before I would try and lay her down. She is now 2 months and sleeping really well. We are now trying the laying her down when she is tired and generally if I just stand there a couple of minutes rubbing her back she falls asleep. Really I think it just takes time for them to feel comfortable and sleep well. My daughter also loves to sleep on her side which they say you shouldn't do either, but she is rolling now anyways so it doesn't make a difference how I put her down.
Hang in there!!! It gets better
My DD does the exact same thing the last few days. I am SO tired! I hope its the 6-week growth spurt and will get better soon.
i have only put her down twice when she wasn't deeply asleep and have her go to sleep. She apparently doesn't know how to self soothe at all, unfortunately.
