I barely showered and the hospital gave me what j needed for that anyway, so I wouldn't pack shampoo and all that. I think I needed more for DH. We packed after my water broke and couldn't put too much thought into it but definately more for DH. Deodorant is a must (for both)! And glasses and contact solution. Also snacks. Gl!
I did take these things and would take them again:
- A fresh pair of maternity/nursing pjs
- A robe
- Make up (I didn't put it on except for some face powder after a shower, but I did put some on the day I left the hospital, and it made me feel human).
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, travel size shampoo).. even though the hospital will provide these things, I personally liked having my own.
- Pillow
- Camera, cell phone, laptop and chargers
- Comfortable clothes to wear home
- An outfit for baby to wear home
I brought these things but wouldn't bother with them next time:
- Magazines
- Blankets and extra clothes for the baby
I didn't bring but would bring next time:
- Snacks! I had baby at 2:43 a.m. I hadn't eaten in almost 24 hours, and I had nothing good to eat in my hospital room afterwards.
- Breast pump. It took forever for my milk to come in.
i'd say the most important thing i had in my bag was nursing pads, you will leak. Also, an outfit to wear home for you and baby, plus deoderant. I really didn't change into pj's while i was there or anything like that.
the only thing i wish i had brought that i didn't was my own pillow. the hospital pillows were plasticky and made me sweat. also, i wound up having a section, and i hadn't packed enough clothing for 4 days in the hospital. make sure you have enough!
Pillows, boppy, makeup, nightgown, robe, my own towel, outfit for baby to come, outfit for me to go home, slippers were the only things I used. I would have brought more snacks. I would leave magazines, computer, extra clothes at home. I used a hospital grade pump and it worked out great.

I stayed in the hospital gowns, wore hospital gripper socks and ate the hospital food (my hospital had a fully stocked"family kitchen" 5 feet from my roomand the hospital food was made to order and awesme) so I may not be a huge help!
I wish I would have brought nursing camis and a Boppy. I did bring and recommend the obvious camera, tooth brush/tooth paste and somme shower stuff.

All I really needed to pack was my grippy socks, snacks for DH, camera, and my phone. I didn't even brush my teeth the frist night and hte hospital provided everything I needed. I lost a lot of blood and couldn't even get out of bed to go to the bathroom without blacking out - so my options were limited.
DH could have definately picked up everything else when he went home to shower - like the go home clothes for baby and me.

Everyone is so different.....I didn't want to wear a hospital gown at all and didn't at all. I wish I would have brought more nursing tank tops since that is what I lived in. I also wish I had more maternity capris as that is what I wore as well! I wanted to be as comfy as possible. I would for sure take the boppy for breast feeding! I also took too many outfits for baby, you only need one! I perferred her in a sleeper for comfort in the carseat. I used our camera and laptop alot! I also wore flip flops. While I was laboring I wore pajama shorts and a non nursing tank top. This is what I was most comfy in. Again all in your comfort level......I did NOT want to wear a hospital gown at any time and didn't!

I wish I had brought more snacks. I was hungry at all hours and DH had to buy his food for the most part. Also more comfy clothes for myself. I was out of the hospital gown pretty fast and wished I had more than one nursing gown.

The thing that I didnt even think of packing and had to send someone to get was "granny pants" I had just packed my regular under garments, and ended up having a c-section so those were definitely out of the picture at that point. I also took clothes for my LO but you wouldnt have to the hospital would have provided them but I personally liked having her in her own clothes. I would have left all of the things like magazines, and puzzle books at home, I did not feel like doing them after I got to the hospital.
All I really needed to pack was my grippy socks, snacks for DH, camera, and my phone. I didn't even brush my teeth the frist night and hte hospital provided everything I needed. This was me, but if i had to do it again I would pack: snacks, flip flops, camera, flip video camera, pillow, boppy, toiletries, make-up, cell phone, a couple of changes of clothes, and a sleeper (cute coming home outfit) and blanket for LO.
toiletries (I don't like the hospital brand shampoo & conditioner and I wanted really good lotion)
pj pants & outfit to wear home
2 outfits & blanket for LO
vending machine money
cameras, cell phones, & chargers
baby book for foot/hand prints
nonskid socks
small notepad/pen for questions, jot down visitors/gifts (hospital will provide if you ask though)
flip flops
an extra, empty bag to take home everything that the hospital provides you with, you can use all of those items once you get home too
I took my boppy, but never really used it until we got home. I just used a pillow that was already on my bed. I also took my laptop, but I was honestly too wrapped up in LO or us trying to get some sleep that I never used it.
I definitely overpacked. I had a c-section so the first 2 days I just wore the hospital gown and a robe that they gave me. The 3rd day I wore my own sweats and a t-shirt. I brought some clothes for LO but she didn't wear them (except for her going home outfit). We definitely didn't need snacks because the hospital food was amazing and you could order whatever and whenever you wanted. The only thing I really needed out of my bag was my shower stuff and makeup.
EDIT: Next time I will definitely bring my boppy. I had such a hard time getting comfortable when nursing her. It was such a pain trying to position all of the pillows....
