Mad at myself for not taking more pics (also, rec. your camera):

I'm great at taking snap shots throughout the day, but I forget things like First Mother's Day, First Father's Day, etc. I get caught up in the logistics of meeting up w. family or getting to the restaurant and I don't think to take any.

I'm so sad I didn't think to take pictures of her w/ her dad on father's day. And we don't get it back.  I'm resolved to take a ton on the Fourth and from then on.

As part of this, does anyone just love their camera? I have a Canon point and shoot, and it's okay. But I'd like to get a good camera, and I'm not sure where to start. I'd appreciate any advice! I want one that's fairly idiot proof and doesn't require me to know what an apogee is.

  • Invest in a DSLR (preferably with video) like the Canon T1.  Point and shoots are okay, but the shutter speed on a DSLR will keep you from missing smiles!

The best part of these cameras is that you get pro quality without being a pro.  You can shoot in automatic and get great shots.  I took classes to learn to shoot in manual, but this is also a hobby.  :)

    No camera recommendation for you.

When my girls were really little (before walking) I used a point and shoot.  After they got mobile, and fast, it got hard to take good picks w/out flash.  I never liked the way things looked with a flash.  We got a DSLR (Cannon Rebel), and it's great.  I still don't know what the h*ll I'm doing, but manage to get some good shots occasionally.

sorry you havent gotten some of the photos you wanted!

if you want to learn the ins and outs of a DSLR - that might be a good option, but honestly, if you arent going to take the time to learn it - its a lot of money for basically a point and shoot.

i would look into something between a point and shoot and a DSLR. one example would be a Canon powershot SX30IS . one of my friends purchased one and loves it for her baby. she did not want a full DSLR but also wanted something a bit more than a point and shoot.

(i recommended canon because its what i use and love for both my dslr (7D) and my point and shoot)

  • Thank you ladies!
  • We have a Nikon D40. It's the super entry level DSLR, and we've been very happy with it. I mostly shoot in the automatic setting. My aunt has a Canon Rebel that takes beautiful pictures. With twins, I often struggle with picture taking. I was so sad when I realized we missed taking pictures of their first bath because DH and I each bathed one baby at the same time.
  • We bought a Canon T3i when LO was born and we LOVE it!
