So my little one spits-up A LOT! Sometimes, it feels like it is the entire bottle. BUT, he is gaining wait and not in pain so the doctor isn't concerned. She did suggest trying to formula like Emfamil AR or Similac for Spitup. We tried the Emfamil and he hated it so we went back to Similic Sensitive (we had gas issues early on). She said that we can put some rice cereal in his bottles...it just seems so early for that.
My question is...have your doctors suggested anything else? Are there any tricks that you have tried that make your LO spit-up less? We have tried different positions, different bottles, different formula, different temperatures of the formula, burping/not burping...nothing works! Poor kid is going to be stuck wearing a bib for his whole life.
Re: Moms of happy spitters, come in!
This is what LO was doing when he was diagnosed with reflux. I think some doctors just handle "happy spitters" different. Our Pedi recommended putting rice in the bottle and I do that at night (He is BF'd but I give him BM bottles at night w/ rice) it seems to do the trick to thicken things up so he doesn't spit up as much. One of the recommendations we were given is to keep LO upright (or at an angle) after his feedings for 30 minutes. I also wait a few minutes before burping LO after he eats. I found that if I burped him right after he was finished eating I would be wearing the contents of his meal on my shirt (and down my bra).
Oh, and also, we started doing rice in the bottle starting at 2 weeks. Yes, it was early but I was desperate to get food down. Since he's been gaining weight like mad. So I feel like it's helped.
