Help needed (repost from AP)

For the last week or so Claire has been waaaaaaaayyyy more clingy than normal.  I'm pretty sure it's because I'm now 8 weeks pregnant, and she's picking up that something is "wrong".  The problem is I am having a lot of trouble with trying to relax; because if I'm not holding, nursing, or following her closely she starts to whine, cry, etc.  It's really getting hard for me to hold my temper since I'm throwing up several times a day, and daddy can't take her for five minutes because she screams.  What can I do to help calm her down, and also give myself a little time to just relax?  I'm at my wits' end, and a couple times have had to just let her scream because I can't handle it.  TIA!!

Apparently I have to add some stuff since I can't do duplicate posts....  That's inconvenient sometimes.

  • I'd strongly suggest having her learn to have some "daddy time", it's new, so she won't be happy for awhile, but she will get used to it.  If you have to, get out of the house (even if you don't feel well) so you will be out of sight, out of mind for her.  You can't hold her all the time, esp when the baby comes, and the last thing you want is for her to think the baby is the reason you aren't holding her anymore. Try getting her to do activities near you, while you do something else (like fold laundry) even if it is only for 5 minutes.  GL, and feel better, I hope your MS gets better soon.

  • I ditto the PP about practicing playing independently and spending more time with dad. Maybe it's time to get some cool new toys that will keep her attention.

Are you opposed to letting her watch a TV show a day? Yo Gabba Gabba is a lifesaver if I need 22 minutes to unwind. :)

I'm sure her reaction has less to do with her sensing the pregnancy and more to do with her age. It will pass-hang in there!

  • I'm in school from 2-5:30 every day, so she's used to me being gone.  The problem comes when I'm home.  She expects me to play with her constantly when I'm home.
