Re: Poll: cleaning toys

  • Not nearly as often as I did when she was a baby and spitting up on everything. I wash stuffed animals, babies, and their blankets, but other than that, unless she's been sick recently and kids are coming over to play, I don't actively go through and wash/sanitize everything regularly. Gross, I know, but she has about eleventy billion toys and my kitchen floor is usually calling, "Hey, clean me first..."

  • I am pretty much like teacherjess.  I clean things that get dirty along the way and wipe down her kitchen since it collects dust, but I don't actively go through and wash things on a regular basis like I did when she was smaller.
  • I'm pretty much the same way.  I wipe down the things that collect dust and throw things in the wash that I can.  Other than that, it's clean when needed.

  • This makes me feel so much better.  One of my "projects" for summer break is to clean her toys.  Like previous posters, I will wash stuffed toys/blankets, wipe down her kitchen, etc.  Her bath toys are what I should clean more often.  They seem to have a soapy film on them..

Ditto this.  And if we have a play date and anyone has runny noses, etc, I wipe down whatever gets played with.

Ugh, bath toys are so disgusting. Even if I clean them after each bath, they still get filmy and gross. I throw out a lot of bath toys and just replace them here and there because they are so gross to clean and keep clean.

  • I'm a tad bit different than everyone else, since I have so many kiddos here all the time.

I HATE toy washing.  I clean the toys about once per month.  Except for this winter when there was so. much. sickness.  that I cleaned them about every other week.

We also have a basket that we keep out of the childrens' reach that I toss toys in whenever I see them frequent mouths and then those go in the dishwasher when I run it.  I feel like all of our toys are looking run down, since I am constantly washing them.  Our little people are starting to have their eyes and clothing rubbed off!

I wash bedding and blankets every other week.  And I rarely wash Cecelia's bath toys... but we do a whole lotta quick baths over here, so she doesn't play in there for a very long time.  I should probably try to give her more time in there for sure!

  • I have "clean DD's toys" on my household chore chart so it gets done semi-regularly (maybe monthly?), but now that she's older I don't give it nearly the priority I did when she was an infant.

Unless she's been sick, or I see something that needs cleaned, I just try to make sure I get to it... eventually Smile
