WWYD?

LO likes to wake and start grunting and then will cry out, and just as I am getting up and heading to his room he will stop and be silent and still, and go back to sleep.  He did this last night at 1:30 am, and I stayed up a bit to see if he would cry, and then fell back asleep myself.  He did it again at 3:00am (his usual wake time), and again by the time it roused me out of sleep and I was up, he was out again.  He finally woke screaming at 4:00am.  I wonder if I should have gotten him at 3?  Or maybe he just had a bad dream.  I am assuming he would have cried out like he did at 4 if he was really hungry before then.

What would you have done?

I guess I feel bad because sometimes I worry I am not waking up as soon as he starts crying, like maybe I don't hear him at first.

  • Elliott does this too. I let him put himself back to sleep if he does. If he's hungry he'll actually wake himself up fully. I figure he's just startled himself somehow, or his reflux is acting up but he's still really sleepy.

I've stopped waking up for those grunts now, he's 2months next week. I'm sure you will too. I wake up when he's actually awake only now, and it's a big relief to not keep waking up with no reason.

  • He is OK!  I wouldn't have gotten my LO up if she fell back asleep at 3.  He was probably just hungry at 4, that's when I would have gotten my LO out of bed.  It's OK if you don't hear him cry and get him right away, as long as you get to him as soon as you can.  I feel the same way as you, but I finally just had to accept that as long as I DO tend to her as soon as I hear her, she is going to be ok. = )
  • Ack! He did it again, and I thought for sure he was awake, but nope back to dreamland. I do have a video monitor, and I see him turning his head side to side and kicking his feet out, he does this after we put him down when he is gassy so my guess is the little guy is just trying really hard to poop, but is still sleepy.
