TTC After a Loss

Cost of D&C - OMG!!!!

Well I got all the bills from my D&C in September. ?All the bills together came to about $7,000 and after the insurance paid their portion, I still owe the Dr's and hospital $800. ?Yikes! I almost wish I had miscarried naturally! ?I'm grateful that I have insurance but $800 is a lot of money, especially now! ?

Re: Cost of D&C - OMG!!!!

  • Omg! That is ridiculous! I don't understand how they can charge so much for everything. Sorry you owe so much money, but thank goodness you had insurance to cover the most part of it. What do people with no insurance do?!

  • I know - I owed about $560 after my hospital stay.  The original bill was $15,000 though so I'm so glad I had insurance.  Those prices are outrageous!!!
  • I thought the exact same thing when I saw my bill for my D&C. In fact I just got the bill for my resection surgery yesterday...$13,000 (and that's just the hospital's charges!).  Thank goodness I only owe 10% on this one!

  • Man, I thought it was bad that the hospital charged my insurance over $1,500 for blood work for my last pg! Thank goodness my insurance covered it all though.

  • Things like this really make me wonder what people who don't have any insurance do! ?This sucks!
  • That stinks.  I ended up paying around $220.  $100 for the actual D&C and $120 for the millions of visits to the OB that week.

I actually had a natural m/c and then a d&c to remove some remaining tissue.  A natual m/c may not have gotten you off the hook for that bill.    It's crappy any way you slice it.

They just don't pay....I work for a state run drug rehab where you don't have to "pay" for it...but if you go to the er you do. I took one off the girls a few weeks ago for a cyst (they go of anything to btw) but she just walked out w/o paying. On the way out she told me she never does or she's never known anyone to pay a hospital bill.  IMy conscience would get the better of me and I'd end up paying...

  • Yup, it cost me $560 out of pocket.....
  • The cost of having a miscarriage is terrible, after this last one, I owe about $1500, which thankfully I have in HSA but geez.  Medical bills are terrible :(
  • I know, it's horrible to admit, but I actually held out for a natural miscarriage partially due to the cost.  I'm so cheap.  Luckily, I'm switching to H's insurance and it would have covered 100%, but I'm still stuck with mine for the rest of the year..
  • Oh yeah . . . it's insane.  If I total up all of my bills thus far (medical procedures, medications, surgeries, etc.), it would cost less to actually have a baby.  Sad

  • Yeah, mine was about $16000 after eveything. Luckily we have great insurance and the d&e was billed under maternity care so we didn't have any copays for it. If it was a sugrery we would have payed about $600 which is still really good though.

It sucks when on top of everything else you have to worry about money.

  • I ended up owing about $1200 after everything was over.  I haven't gotten all the bills yet either, so I'm still paying.  It's so frustrating.
  • I know what you mean! I had some complications and had to stay at hospital for quite a few hours....8000 dollars just for the stay! That doesnt include all the other bills for the actual procedure. Ugh....
  • My word.  Sometimes you wonder if things are rigged just for US Insurance Companies to make money.  You have to feel for those who don't have insurance.  We need a better health care system in our country.
