Pregnant after 35

Preliminary results from CVS

are NORMAL!

I'm so excited and relieved. Still waiting for the full results to tell anyone, but hopefully by next Friday we can come out of hiding. I also found out the gender, but am keeping the secret until I can share with DH when he gets home tonight (even though the bum already guessed, said he knew for sure, and was right...darned him). Thanks for all the input and thoughts over the past few weeks ladies!

  • Did you have NT testing as well as CVS?  Our first appointment is July 12 (8 weeks) - being that I am 38 and haven't been pregnant n almost 9 years I feel like I am learning everything all over again!  (There was no option for NT testing in 2002 with my OB/GYN).  I am just curious how you decided to go with CVS - and any other testing that you are aware of for AMA moms ...

Thanks - ANd I am very happy you have good news! <3

  • That is wonderful news!!! Congrats and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy (OH and tell us the gender soon)! He, he, heeeeee! ;-)

  • We did not have NT testing. I went into my first appointment at 6 weeks thinking I would do NT and then decide on further testing, but after discussing with my OB (who gave no pressure for any testing, just info) and reading everything I possible could on CVS we decided that we needed a diagnostic test, not odds. I knew I would still be wondering "what if we are the 1 in 750". When we were thinking of doing NT our plan was to do the blood work portion at 9 weeks and the NT as soon as it is allowed, that way we would have full NT results at the NT and could decide on CVS if we wanted it. After much thought, we just decided CVS would give us peace of mind. We had no real reason for testing other than age, 40 and 42, and DH does not know paternal genetic history. We waited so long to decide to try for a baby, we needed to know as much as we possible could.

  • Congrats on your good CVS results. Mine is Aug. 2 and I'd like to know if it hurt. With ds, they couldn't do CVS because of the location of my placenta, so I had to do amnio. I'm a big wimp with pain. Also, how long did it take to get your prelim results? TIA

  • I would not say it hurt. Mine was transabdominal. The local before the procedure stung and felt odd and then the procedure itself was uncomfortable and felt really weird. I can't describe the feeling. It was quick though, 30-45 seconds. Just breathe through it. The rhogam shot I had to get at the end hurt more than the CVS. That sucker stung! Procedure was at 2pm Tuesday, had our FISH results Friday morning about 9am.

  • Thanks for the info. Transabdominal is the type I'm super scared of just because my amnio hurt so much and I know the needle is bigger for CVS. Good to know it's really quick.
