lets talk about toddlers and tiaras

i can NOT stop watching this show.  its my guilty pleasure.  i feel sorry for the kids, but somewhat sorrier for the moms.  i feel like they're trying to live out their own dreams or prove something about themselves through their kids.  it's sad.

i would never put LO in a pageant, but sometimes i want to just to prove a point - that she can win just by being adorable, without pointing her finger at her mouth while smiling, nodding and winking all at the same time.  ugh, that part is the worst to watch, especially when the mom is  doing hte routine along with the kid.

  • lol-this came on the other day when I was nursing and I couldn't reach the remote...and my first thought after five minutes was exactly what you said.  I feel sorry for the moms because they seem to be trying to live out their lives through their tiny little children.  So sad.  And please pook, no pagents!!  Or at least if you do don't let your DD drink 3 Redbulls at age 6 so she's 'energetic' on stage.  I could kick that mom right in her ugly head.  You don't let kids drink redbull, seriously.

  • Omg, I watched one the other day and was transfixed. The moms are insane. It is so sad. And the one little girl was talking about her " special soda" and I had no idea what she was talking about... Until the camera panned to the Red Bull can (blurred out). Who let's a kid have Red Bull?!?!

  • yall must have missed the mom who dyed her kids eyebrows.  the little girl kept saying to her "you ARE that crazy mom!"

PS i love that i post something at a midnight feeding, come back for hte 3 am and have replies.  only on a newborn forum!

  • I would let her enter pageants if she really wanted to, but shed be at a disadvantage because I wouldn't let her wear a flipper, wig, or makeup and if sshes tired and needs a nap I'm not gonna give her red bull to keep her awake. What mom gives her kid red bull?!

  • I love this show for the trainwreck factor. I used to be in pageants in the 80's but that was before they did the fake hair, teeth, and tans. My makeup was also "natural"...not super caked on. Of course I had no say in it and I don't remember how I felt about the pageants back then.

I would NEVER subject my child to what pageants are now. The competition is who can spend the most money and make their kid look the trashiest.

    I cannot believe those parents.

  • I was curious and watched this show the other day too... Now I want to watch more and am totally ashamed!  Sometimes you just need to watch trashy TV, ya know?

I saw an episode about a little boy named Zander and his mom was an absolutely B*TCH!!!  I felt so bad for that little boy because of how his insane mother is going to influence him throughout his life...  He's 5, and 5 year olds act out, right?  Well the entire episode the mom kept talking bad about him and was saying, "I don't expect him to win anything; he did so bad!" etc etc...  Then Zander ended up winning the top prize for the little boy's division and the mom was 'shocked'!  One of the judges made a comment about how bad she felt for him because the mom was yelling at him the entire time.  Yikes...

And along with the redbull, this episode also featured moms pouring Pixie Stix down their daughter's throat to keep her energized!

I'm going to make a terribly generalized statement and say that pageant mom's are all insane.

  • I love it, it's my guilty pleasure too. There is just something about watching those people that you gives you a better feeling about yourself.

I do feel bad for the kids though, some of those moms are Insane! Redbull, pixie sticks, tons of pop, the extreme 'spa' procedures some of the kids go through (hair dye when very young, tanning, waxing), the pressure to do well... sheesh.

  • I haven't read any of the responses so if this has been brought up then I'm just reiterating. I feel more sorry for the moms and kids when its a BOY. Poor kids.

My DH was in pageants when he was little. He hated it, but he won!

  • It's scary to me that they can make those 4 year old little girls look 18 in the face. With all that spray tan and makeup. Ick.
