cradle cap

does anyone elses baby have this?

mine does really bad its even on his ears Sad it sucks.

what are you doing to make it go away?

Re: cradle cap

  • I didn't know what cradle cap was so I went and asked Dr. Google.

This is what I found here is a "cure" suggestion for you :

"Oil your babies. To cure cradle cap, massage a vegetable oil into the crust-like scales. Let the oil soak in for fifteen minutes to soften the scales, then remove them with a soft baby hairbrush. To completely get rid of the scaliness, use an over-the-counter tar-based shampoo once a week. The omega-3 fats found in fish oil are another effective remedy due to their anti-inflammatory properties (the dermatitis that you've described is most likely due to a generalized inflammation of the skin). While omega-3s are now added to the latest infant formulas, they may not be present in high enough doses to efficiently work as an anti-inflammatory on your babies. Ask your doctor to recommend a pharmaceutical-grade fish oil. Add no more than 500mg a day to your babies' formula: Simply open a 500mg capsule and squirt it into the bottle. Once the dermatitis has cleared, gradually wean your babies off the added fish oil but keep them on an omega-3-enriched formula. If there's a recurrence, simply resume the fish oil. If the dry, scaly skin persist throughout their toddler years, I suggest you feed your growing twins at least 3 ounces of wild salmon a couple times a week."

    HTH's!

  • Mine has it really bad on his soft spot! Which makes it hard because I'm a tad scared to pick it off when it's so squishy...lol.

  • My LO has cradle cap too.   I've been just washing it with warm water every night or so and then putting some baby oil on it and it seems to be getting better.   I heard it will most likely just go away on it's own and then there isn't really much that can cure it.

I was wondering the same thing. Also, is slatherthatshit a medical term? Stick out tongue

It certainly is! It is related to "squirtthatshit" which I would have told her to do if the kid had pink eye. I did it with Lila last week and it was gone like magic.

  • Xander had it really bad and this is what our pedi said to do:

Rub a generous amount of baby oil onto his head, and leave it for about 15-20 minutes before a bath, then in the bath gently scrub his head with a soft bristled toothbrush, rinse, and wash his head with baby shampoo not soap...

I was having the same problem, I would give him a bath and think I got it all, then in the morning or by the next night it'd be gone, I tried that routine right there, and it is practically completely gone and I had a strong feeling after tomorrow's bath it would be significantly better still.

Try it out , worked like a charm for me :)

  • Pedi said wash with Selsun Blue twice a week.  I wish I'd known the breastmilk remedy and saved $14~
  • We have used the baby oil and then just used the soft baby brush to brush out the scaly dry skin. Then we put Baby Aquaphor on her head during the day for mositure and we see a HUGE difference.....she also had the baby acne and this worked for that too.

  • My LO had this really bad too. I put aquaphor on his ears and it cleared up in  2 days. As far as his head, he has a lot of hair so it was harder to put the aquaphor on his head but i do put baby oil on it 15 minutes before bath time and then use my fingernails when washing his hair. HTH

This worked for us too. I just put the baby oil on at the beginning of the bath. At the end, I scrubbed his head with a baby brush or wash cloth, and washed his hair with baby shampoo. It cleared up in a couple of days. I've heard olive oil works too.
