Is Carly a nickname for Caroline?

DH likes nicknames and I am ok with that, however we are having a hard time agreeing on a nickname for our girl name (Caroline). I don't like Carrie and he vetoed my suggestion of Cara. I was recently listening to the radio and a Carly Simon song came on and I thought, what about Carly?

Is that a stretch? Our daughters name is Lillian and we call her Lily. Is Lily and Carly too...I don't know- girly? KWIM?

Maybe we will have a boy and this who discussion will be moot.

I've not heard it for Caroline, only Carolyn. However, it is totally legit and works, so go for it!

As the mother of a Caroline, I don't see how Carly works. It doesn't sound anything like it. Using a pet name or something like that is one thing, but naming her Caroline but calling her something else doesn't make sense to me. What is wrong with calling her Caroline? One of the things we decided when we chose the name was that there was no real way to shorten it. If you like Carly though, maybe you should name her that. It's a cute name.
