First fireworks--how old was your LO?

We're still undecided about taking DD to see the fireworks this weekend.  I really do think she would enjoy them so I'm leaning towards taking her.  How old was your LO when you took them for the first time?  How did they react?

  • Charlie was 8 months & loved them

Paul was 2 months & seemed to enjoy them (he watched & stayed awake at least!)

Take her & try to sit a little further away from them so they aren't as loud

  • DD was 16 months when we took her last year. It was a private show so they weren't as loud as a large display, but she really enjoyed them.
  • We took Evan last year, so he was 13 months. He had a blast playing in the park, and then fell asleep right before they started and slept through them!

I'm hoping this year he'll stay awake. I think he'll like them... he's not freaked out by loud noises, and loves lights. If for some reason he hates them and cries, we'll just leave early.

Ian was 14 months old and loved them. We were pretty far away from where they were launched (Sackets Harbor Battlefield), so the sound wasn't an issue. He hasn't had a problem since, and now that it's summer, he keeps asking when we're going to see them.
  • I would love to take B but she goes to bed earlier and doesn't sleep anywhere but in her crib (unfortunately). So maybe next year.

  • He looooved them.  Couldn't get enough and then proceeded to talk about them for the next six months and how they went "boom, pop!"
  • Oh, and he was 18 months the first time.
  • Chelsea still hasn't been and she's 3 and 1/2...that's bad, huh? And Molly hasn't seen any b/c she was 3 days old last year. We were going to take them to some tonight but they are both sick. If they are feeling better Monday we are going to take them.
