Question about bottles for a friend

Really!  A has done well with the Dr. Brown's :)

A friend of mine has a 9 week old little girl.  She is nursing well and has started to try bottles (several kinds, but she did not mention specifics) as she will be going back to work and she has had no success.  Her little one has a bad gag reflex and will projectile vomit it up.  She has tried smaller amounts, more frequently, with some success, but she is still looking for other ideas.  She is going to try a preemie nipple.  Her daughter is gaining weight well, but she is going back to work soon and needs to find a bottle system that works.

Any ideas? I told her that I would ask "the girls" :)

Re: Question about bottles for a friend

  • I'm not sure if they help with the vomiting but we had good luck with Tommee Tippee bottles from BRU.

  • We use the playtex drop ins.  When DS was very little he had a difficult time taking a bottle.  I think the flow was too fast on the bottle.  Maybe the preemie nipple would be better for her?
  • Did she try the BreastFlow bottles?  They are most like breast feeding.
  • DD needed a really slow flow nipple when we started, so I think a preemie nipple would be helpful, but we used the Breastflow bottles - they were the slowest.

I didn't like the quality of the bottles though, so we ditched them and switched to Avent after she could handle a faster flow.  DS is using these now.

This is what we did also. The only thing I didn't like about Breastflow is that a bunch of milk got 'caught' in the outer nipple and they couldn't drink that part. Did this happen to anyone else?
