Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovulating/testing on a 40 day cycle.

Hello! My husband and I are TTC (only 2 months) I got off BC in March and have only had 2 periods (approx a 40 day cycle). In HS I was anorexic and lost my period for a long time and when it came back it was very irregular so my general doc put me on BC. On the pill I never had a period, ever.

I've been using the ovulation tests and still haven't ovulated (been using for 2 weeks now.) I'm planning on using them until I get my period. Is is possible to have a period and not ovulate? At what point to I call my doctor? We are TTC and so are our bestfriends who got pregnant their first try. I'm trying so hard not to get impatient bc it is only the beginning...

  • Welcome to the board, make sure you read the newbie link at the top of the page.

Since you already have problems with your period I would schedule a preconception appointment with your OB/GYN to discuss your concerns.

Yes, you can have a period without ovulating.

I know it can be very frustrating, but hang in there.

  • Welcome.

First, it can take a healthy couple a year to conceive. Kudos to you for recognizing this may only be the beginning of your journey, but I hope your stay is short.

    1. OPKs don't confirm ovulation. It's possible to miss your surge. To confirm, you need to be charting your temps. Many of us use fertilityfriend.com. It'll give you a very clear picture of what's going on

    2. It is possible to have a anonvulatory cycle that ends in a period. Sometimes our bodies just don't go through a full cycle and reset themselves.

    3. If you get to 60 days without a period, call your doctor. They can give you meds to get you on to your next cycle.

    4. If you see consistently (3 cycles or more) that you're not ovulating, definitely call your doc. You have options.

Please read the newbie link at the top of this board. It'll expand on some of this info and provide much more. GL to you

  • My Dr. said that it wasn't abnormal for some women to not have a period on BC, I was on for 3 years. He said it could be many things but one of his nurses thought maybe because of my size I just don't produce enough estrogen? I am at a normal weight now so thats not the issue.
  • Hi- just wanted to share what happened after getting off of BC after being on it for 10 years.

First cycle was 38 days, second cycle was 72 days, Dr put me on Provera.. period came a few days after taking that. I started charting temps and CM on Fertility Friend. Charted for 2 months and got pregnant with DD. I'm pretty much on a 40 day cycle as well- O has been consistent at CD 23 when I use OPK and temp.

    GL to you!
