Secretly Trying to Conceive

My husband and I have just started TTC. We are so excited. Although to my dismay I didn't realize how little I knew about making a baby. We are secretly trying because our families each want a grandbaby (and know that we do to), but we have convinced them all that we wanted to wait a while and enjoy married life since we just tied the knot in May. It makes it so amazing and difficult at the same time. I want to ask my mom questions, but don't want to even give her a clue because when we eventually succeed we plan on throwing a huge cookout to surprise everyone with the news. My frustration is that my cycles are not always the same and I have always had an irregular period so it is very frustrating on trying to nail an ovulation date. I bought an ovulation predictor kit so hopefully it works. Has anyone used one of these kits before and it work??? Thanks:)

have you thought about temping? I thought I knew when I O'd this cycle but now I am not so sure so I bought OPK's and a basal thermometer to start temping! That is the only true way to know for sure.

well I don't know where you live, but what happens if you live in a cold climate and you are successful in like January?

nope. no one. ever. you are the first. Just kidding (although those never worked for me - I relied on my temps to confirm O for me)

Other than that, good luck! And I think its awesome that you want to suprise your families, but do you have maybe one or two friends you could confide in? When we were trying to DD we didn't want to tell our families but I had a handful of friends that knew and they really helped keep my sane and gave me someone to talk to. This time around I've told the same group of friends that we're planning on trying again after my next cycle (hopefully).

This board is a great resource, but for me it really helped to have some IRL people to talk to also.

Fertility Friend is also a great resource. The majority of this board will tell you to go there and chart. I personally don't chart, and its not mandatory, but it can be very helpful. Just do what feels right for you.

Hey Girls...so I live in Georgia and well it stays pretty hot/warm until September...but you are all so right. The more I learn about the process about TTC then it could be months until we have success, that being said either way I am planning on having some sort of large family gathering either inside/outside to share the news with our clueless families and friends. I am so intrigued by everything there is to learn that I have like 6 baby apps on my phone so when I can i am constantly educating myself so that I can have the best possible chance.

Question for those 2 time mommies....how long did it take your first time around to get pregnant? And, were you aware of your ovulation and know as much about your body as you do now? Thanks again everyone...I love that I am able to talk to you all here since I am hiding it all from everyone else.

And Candr09...thanks for the advice about confiding in a few friends. I chose to listen and spoke to a couple of my closest girlfriends today...and it helped so much by letting them know what we are going through:)

I started temping/charting/using OPK's the 2nd cycle after coming off the pill. I wanted to maximize our chances every month and know that my body was doing what it was supposed to be doing - O'ing, specifically. You have so little control over this whole TTC business, by doing those things, it at least gave me some feeling of being in control of some aspect of it and helped keep me sane. I didn't always love it (waking up early every day to temp, seeing my temps drop and knowing I probably wasn't KU that cycle), but I'm glad I did it.

It took us 7 cycles to get a BFP, and 8 cycles to get the one that "stuck." And I know everyone's different, but I didn't tell anyone we were TTC... personally, I felt it really wasn't anyone's business what DH and I were doing in the bedroom and didn't need anyone asking me every month "so are you KU yet?" when I wasn't, just adding to the frustration. But everyone is different with regards to their privacy and how much they involve their friends/family in their very personal business.
