So I found out that MIL's offer was accepted by the seller (which pretty much means nothing other than the other two offers won't be submitted to the bank). I found out that the 30 day thing is the time that the sellers have before the places goes into foreclosure rather than through a short sale. Yikes! Her agent is going to fight for her. Keep your fingers crossed for all of us that the bank doesn't stall. I need some serious bumpie dust.
Good luck! I would think it would be in the bank's best intreast to accept your offer rather than have the house forclosed and then have to try to find another buyer. Hopefully the people at the bank feel the same way.
An offer on a short sale offer can *sometimes* stop a foreclosure (well - put it on hold pending an acceptance from the bank.) I work in this type of law office that helps people with foreclosures and a friend of mine does short sales.
Good luck to your MIL!! When our offer was submitted to the bank it stayed the pending foreclosure proceedings. Hopefully the same will happen for her.

ETA: sending lots of dust to your MIL.
