Holy hospital bills!

I have been anxiously awaiting the Explanation of benefits from my bout in the hospital and the first one has finally arrived. $2500 for 1 nights stay at university. This doesn't include the surgery or the 2nd nights stay. I also got a statement from Anderson mercy for $1200 for my 3 or 4 hours I was there. I don't have the medical transport statement yet either.

Thank god for awesome health insurance! We don't have to pay a penny of that, but my lord, that is a crazy amount for me to basically sleep at the hospital. They didn't really do anything but keep me hooked up to the monitors, give fluids and run a few labs. I didn't even see the doctor until the following day!

Yikes! Healthcare costs are ridic. No wonder so many companies are dropping HMO/PPO coverage.

I know how you feel! I was in the hospital for 5 hours with a miscarriage and they charged me 10k!!! I am paying out of pocket for all of it.

Now that is absolutely ridic! If I would have had to pay oop for our loss I may have blown something up!

This happened to us in 2006 when we had our loss at 12 weeks. It was adding insult to injury and because DH was locked out at the time we had to pay OOP.

Isn't it nuts?! For our loss we received bills up to our maximum out of pocket with our HSA....grand total $3,100! I'm still paying on those bills.

Good news is because we'll deliver in the same calendar year this entire pregnancy is covered at 100%.

Avery was in the NICU at Good Sam for about 2 hours before being transferred to Children's, and the charges were almost 13k. You don't even want to know what her stay at CCHMC cost. Of course, you can't put a price on something like that (well, you can, but...), but I can't get over how quickly it adds up!

Yep, hospitals are crazy expensive. I have a 20k bill from 4 days stay in March. My insurance is picking up most of it but I am still stuck with a good deal. Plus every doctor I saw billed me seperate.
