Babies: 6 - 9 Months

nightmares

At what age do children start having nightmares? Do you think its possible for a 7 month old to have nightmares? DD has been waking up about 1-2 hours after going to sleep and just screaming/crying. Sometimes she doesn't even wake up, she just screams and cries in her sleep. She's not wet or hungry or in and pain that I can tell. I just go in and hug her and she quiets down right away and I put her right back down and she's fine the rest of the night. The only explanation I can come up with is that she's having nightmares. Like I said sometimes she doesn't even wake up, she'll be screaming but still be asleep. Its scary sometimes. Its not like she's waking up and whining which is what she does when she's wet or hungry. She goes from deep silent sleep, staight to screaming/crying. I feel bad for her. Sorry for the lack of format, bumping from my blackberry.

Re: nightmares

  • Very good question. I plan to ask the dr about it on Tuesday at our 9 month check up. My LO is doing the same thing.

  • S has done this twice in the past once being last night. I certainly think that it is nightmares, she never wakes up, isnt wet or hungry just cries/ screams with her eyes closed. I will comfort her and then she usually goes back to sleep within a few minuets.
