Road Trip

OMG, so DH wants to take a road trip. He wants to drive to TX from CA with 2 kids, yeah 2. One 3 year old who always asks "are we there yet?" and the 2nd one will be 8 or 9 weeks old, EBF. Luckily he is a good baby.

We have a roomy SUV, but STILL, lol. The directions say 22 hours. Those are going to be some long 22 hours, obviously we will drive one day and get a hotel that night and continue to drive. I think we are going in two weeks, so I have time to pump and store. We are taking our time getting there, so not really stressing (until we hit the road, haha). PLUS its gonna be hotter than a MF.

Has anyone taken a road trip like this with two kids?  How did you keep your sanity?

Re: Road Trip

  • Last summer (at exactly this same time), we drove 14 hours to GA from MI.  DS was about 10 mos. old at the time, and it wasn't bad.  He mostly slept, and we took breaks to eat, get gas, stretch, etc.  For the most part, though, we drove straight through.  I know your kids are different ages, so I don't know how much this helps!  Either way, have a great trip and enjoy it!

  • Yeah, we've done a few road trips. We did one when K was a baby in our minivan, and the other three chiming are we there yet. When we got the van I told DH it had to have the entertainment system or else I'd end up in a straight jacket. We brought extra toys and movies, and made frequent pit stops. At the time K was EBF too, but she slept well in the car. By the time she was ready to feed, I would need to pee anyway!

Would love to have done another one this summer, but it didn't work out. Instead, I'm flying east with the kids to visit my parents and family, but without DH. No time off approval for him, he is bottom of totem pole!!

Oh, and I never really had my sanity or I'd never have five!! And I also plugged into my iPod and read a book while DH drove.

No way! We drove two hours away when DS was 1 and I don't think we could have gone farther.
  • I could never go with either of my boys at that young of an age. 'Course I had c-sections with both. I would be too concerned about others' health and stuff. That said, we did travel with both when V was 9months and he loved it! He could see out the windows and had a blast seeing all the people and stuff at our stops.

  • When we took a road trip in 2008 it was easy. DH and I took turns driving, and taking care of DD. Now that DD is 3 and DS is a month DH "thinks" we can do it, yet today when we went to AAA he couldn't handle waiting 10 minutes to get a map because DS was crying. Help me, haha. I have the most patience in the world I swear. He has pretty much zero depending on the situation. Kind of funny.
