Today I dumped 10oz down the drain and then found out that I didn't have
to. I am so bitter about that. I was told that I had to dump for 24
hours after my surgery. Turns out the anesthesia is out of my system in a
few hours and by the time I felt well enough to pump I was well enough
to nurse. TEN OUNCES! I know its done and gone but today when I just felt like sleeping my husband could have been feeding that milk to Eliza. Instead I'm feeding her and she's kicking all of the incisions. I have a total of four. I'm just so upset about it.
Re: Turns out I didn't have to dump all that milk
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
I know you and I don't really get along well and you probably posted this to be sarcastic or obnoxious but I'm pretty sure you would be upset about it as well and if you had FOUR incisions on your stomach right where your daughter was kicking and punching you while she was nursing you would want to vent just a little.
If you were being sincere then thanks.

BFP #1 9/7/10, EDD 5/14/11, Violet born 5/27/11.
BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.
BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
That sucks.
I am officially really suspicious of any recommendation to pump and dump or suspend bf-ing because of drugs. It seems like so many medical types don't know squat.

I totally agree. I should have talked to the LC before I went into surgery instead of today right before I went home. The other medical personnel should really educate themselves about this kind of thing especially since gallbladder surgery is fairly common for new moms. I know at least 4 women who have had this happen after childbirth.
ETA: spelling.

I was going to say something about the dumping, but I figured that they advised to you dump it out of caution.
I had surgery a few times last summer when I was nursing DD#1, and I worked with a LC and she called the hospital on my behalf and worked with them to find a combo of drugs that would put me out and leave my system quickly. I didn't have to pump and dump at all. But I did the same thing the first time, and ended up dumping a ton!
It sucks that they didn't give you all the information!
I am so sorry Staci. Now I feel bad for talking to you AFTER the fact. I should have messaged you RIGHT when I saw you had posted that you would have to dump. It is unfortunate, but now you know and now you can help other mommies.
I too wish all nurses had some breastfeeding education!

Its ok Cass. I am so glad you talked to me. Like you said now I know and even though I feel bitter and upset about dumping today I will know for the future and I probably would have dumped more if you hadn't talked to me.
I hope I never have to have surgery while BF-ing again but now I know what I can and can't do and I can't help educate other moms.

Super sad. I'm sorry!
I practically cried when I spilled four ounces the other day. Ugh.
