So DH and I had our first RE appointment today. I loved our Dr.! We discussed what we've already had done-SA, HSG, U/S. She said all those things look great. She looked through my charts, and thought 3 of the 5 looked good, the one long cycle I had she said could be a fluke, or could be cause for concern. She said the other chart that was iffy was because of the shorter LP I had. She said it would be better if I were ovulating a little earlier in my cycle. She said it's possible that I have just a slight ovulatory issue. She did an U/S on me again today and said my ovaries and uterus look normal. We were able to tell that I ovulated this month from the right side. They took a ton of blood and will run it for FSH, TSH, AMH, testosterone, and a few other things. She said she suspects all my bloodwork will come back normal.
We then discussed what our options are, and costs related to everything. We're very fortunate that we basically have $25,000 through our insurance to spend on diagnosis and any IF treatment needed to get pregnant-whether that be medications, IUI, IVF, FET. She gave us a bit of a sobering statistic-she said if you've been TTC for a year on your own and haven't had success, your chance of conceiving on your own goes from 25% per cycle, to 3% ![]()
She said she usually starts with clomid to help with ovualtion, and it's up to us whether we'd choose to do IUI along with this, or clomid and good ole intercourse. Trying on our own, our chance is 6% with clomid, and it goes up to 15% with clomid and IUI (she said $700 with the IUI procedure and the monitoring). Another option is clomid, a series of shots, and IUI which brings our chances up to 20% (about $2,000). The next option is IVF, bringing the chance up to 60%
, which in her facility runs $13,000 a cycle.
DH and I are leaning towards a cycle or 2 of clomid and IUI. After that, if we aren't successful, we'll get more aggressive. It feels so good to have a plan!
