Does your DS sit down to pee? If so, how did, and when, did you transition to standing up? What do you do when you're in a public restroom and/or someplace besides your own home?
G has always sat (backwards) to pee. It's worked out fine, but it's always an ordeal when we're out in public because he has to be stripped naked from the waist down, usually including shoes, and it's hard to hold him so he doesn't touch the nasty floor barefoot etc.
I would like to transition him into standing and I will get a step stool to use at home, but how do you deal with going in public restrooms or someplace without a stool? He's only 2 1/2 and about 38 inches tall, so he's not really tall enough to reach without a step stool.
Re: Moms of PT boys
Aidan was too short to stand and pee at the beginning so he sat the whole first like 6+ months of being pt. When he was finally tall enough to stand on very tip toe I did the cheerio trick a couple times but really he just thought it was hilarious to 'shoot the toilet' so it wasn't a tough transition at all.
During the transition I would lift him in public; honestly I don't remember coming across a public potty that I thought was too gross for him to sit and then just wash his hands. At playdates in parks or where I thought it might be questionable as to if they had a restroom I brought the froggie potty with us.
I never stripped him down, including shoes. Hmmm. We taught him to make sure it gets in the toilet while sitting. He aims down.
He started out sitting, especially in public restrooms where standing wasn't an option (too short). He tended to touch too many things trying to stand when he was too short; it was less icky to just sit him down.
He is four now and tall enough to stand most of the time, and I let him decide.
At daycare, they taught him to stand by leaning forward with his hands on the wall. It helps them get their aim worked out. At preschool, they take the boys and the girls to the bathrooms separately and he has become more accustomed to standing.
We have done whatever he's comfortable with for a few years.
I try not to strip him down (it's too much work!) but he does it himself. I'm sure I've provided a whole lot of entertainment for anyone in the stall next to me when they hear "omg don't take off your shoes. please leave your pants on. OMG STOP TOUCHING THE TOILET".
B- where did you get the folding step stool?
Marshalls... I was $7...

I've just been reading this post to prepare for my future, but this made me LOL.
DD went through a phase where going potty = totally nude. Even her shirt had to be off. We got her to keep her shirt on pretty quickly, but the pants and shoes were completely off for... oh, maybe 6 months or more. Tons of fun.
