HSG Test Tomorrow..wasn't nervous till I googled it.....ugh

Ok, i was fine, I was prepared to take Tylenol an hour before, and go back to work...Now im reading about people in so much pain, getting dizzy and nauses, .. I was planning on going alone and returning back to work for two hours.

For the ladies who had HSG, have you had any of those symptoms, and do you feel you could return to work ( i am a paralegal) and sit at a desk.

ugh now im nervous

I wouldn't go back to work if it was me. I have heard you can have cramping for a few hours after the procedure. But with that being said I am not speaking from personal experience.

Can you take off for the afternoon?

I had 2 minutes of pretty intense cramping during the test. Then maybe 15-20 minutes of bad but bearable cramps after. I had some spotting, but not a ton. I'm a teacher and would be on my feet all day so I took the day off, but I think you'd be fine to sit.

See we leave early on Fridays, so my office closes at 2, my appointment is at 10 so i figure i would be back to work around 11 30. i was going to try to stick it out. i should have just took the day off. If going for the test wasnt stressful enough..i hate worrying about work:(

I took the day off but didn't need to. We were running all over the place the remainder of the day and I was fine. Some women do have a lot of pain. It's impossible to know where in the spectrum you will fall.

1st one: one felt a tiny bit of pressure. Was totally fine once it was over.

2nd one: Didn't feel a single thing. Absolutely nothing.

I had some cramping during, but that was all. I went into work for an 8 1/2 shift afterwards and was fine. I agree that you should take your own pad.

I was nervous before as well, mainly about the cramping, but if you make sure you are breathing through it it's not too much worse than AF cramps.

I was able to go back to work after mine (I'm a teacher). I was a bit uncomfortable during the HSG but I felt fine after.

Mine was unusually painful because I have a very narrow cervix, so I was glad that my husband drove and I had the afternoon off. I would hate for you to be in pain and wishng you could have gone home, but I do think you will be fine sitting at your desk for 2 hours and then going home. GL!

I felt a lot of pressure, not so much pain. I did take the rest of the day off and I relaxed at home. My dr. made me have a driver and they checked to make sure DH was there to drive me. DH came in the room with me too which was helpful for moral support. I agree that is nice to bring your own pad or tampon. Good luck! You will be fine!

For me it was no big deal. I didn't take any pain meds before, but took some when I got home (I was having some cramping...same as AF). I drove myself and could've returned to work, but I did it after work.

Afterwards, I had cramping and nausea, but they faded to next to nothing within an hour. Spotting faded by the end of the day as well as the dye I was leaking.

Thankfully, the test is done quickly so you won't have to endure the pain very long. Good luck!

thank you for being honest. It seems to be different for everyone, i am hoping it dosent hurt too bad and I hope i dont have any nausea, im feel sick just thinking about...but thanks again

I think this is true. You sound like me, I got all freaked out reading about the test and I felt sick & anxious thinking about it, just like you are. One thing to remember is that if it hurts, you can ask them to stop for a minute or whatever you need.

For me, I was comforted knowing I had some control. The radiologist (?) said she would tell me everything she was going to do before she did it, but as I was laying there I told her to just do it as fast as possible. She obliged! Also, it got too painful at some point and I asked them to stop, which they did, and told them when I was ready again. At the end they wanted to inject more dye but I had had enough, so I said no (since they had a pretty good picture already) and they respected that. Just talk to to docs doing the test and let them know what you need, it will help you get through it.

Yes, I will take all this advice with me tomorrow. I had no idea you can tell them to stop if it hurts thats a plus. Thanks so much:)

After the test, I was completely fine. I could have gone straight to work. Just mild cramping. But I know everyone's experience is different...

It mostly hurt during the test for me. When they took the tube out it was immediately better. I had some dull light cramps for a little while after. I think I could have gone back to work, but you never know how you will feel. Just call in sick if you think you can't go back.
