I'm in a rut, so hopefully someone posts some good ideas my kid will eat
Right now I make sandwiches (PBJ, jelly and cream cheese, grilled cheese, or avocado/cream cheese), leftovers if it was something he liked, Trader Joes mac and cheese packets (they will make it, or re heat leftovers), pita and hummus, crackers w/ cheese (or Laughing Cow spread)
The leftovers that I send include: shrimp and rice, spaghetti and sausage (I dice it and he eats it with a spoon so not very messy), chicken and broccoli, turkey cobb salad (minus the lettuce which he doesn't eat), chicken parm...
If there are no leftovers he will bring: grilled cheese and a veggie like red peppers or broccoli, sunbutter and jam and a veggie, hotdogs and veggies, raviolis...
DD generally eats for lunch whatever she had for dinner the night. She takes mac and cheese, turkey sandwiches, tortillas, grilled chicken, meatballs (no sauce), with veggies, fruit and a cereal bar or some cookies.
I also try to stay clean and easy (try not to send things that need to be reheated because I know it's a pain for the teachers). That said, we are also in a rut of cold stuff. I try to remind myself that my mom send about the same three things every.single.day in grade school: sandwich, fruit, treat/snack. DS rotates between:
sandwiches: cheese, bologna and cheese, cream cheese, honey, or pb&j if I'm desperate. I always cut it up into fun shapes so he'll be more likely to eat it.
If no sandwich then I send cubed ham with cheese chunks and crackers.
Cheese stick, yogurt, gogurt, applesauce, grahm crackers, animal crackers, raisins, bananas, apple slices, grapes, strawberries, breakfast bar, granola bar, mandarin oranges, kiwi, goldfish, etc.. I think that's about the extent of what he'll eat as a "side".
Today I broke the mold and sent a hotdog I've sent scrambled eggs, pasta, and mac and cheese which he eats gobs of at home, but for some reason won't eat at daycare.
Re: Daycare lunch ideas
why no messy foods?
our regulars are:
cheese ravioli w/ spinach pesto (or plain), chopped up ham and turkey w/ pretzels or some kind of "chip" or cracker
black beans and rice
mac and cheese and chicken
turkey or beef meatballs
DD is an especially messy eater :-) I just feel bad because she makes a total disaster of herself.
