About to try potty training and don't even know where to start

I am home all day for Sat, Sun, and Mon and would like to try potty training with at least DD.  I'll try both, but don't know if DS is actually ready.  I'm planning to buy underwear this afternoon.  How do I start?  Right to the potty Saturday morning and every 20 minutes after that?  Right to underwear?  Any pointers, stories, suggestions, anything is much appreciated.  TIA.

    Whew, I just decided to do it one week with DS who is 2.5. His grandma had gotten him a potty a few weeks prior so he could be used to it. It started out in the LR and then over a few weeks I moved it closer to the bathroom and that's where it is now.

    DH got him some cartoon underwear which he LOVED initially but now runs away from them screaming. Not sure why..

    I tried just having him go but he didn't seem to care. Basically I started offering     rewards for going. and letting him run naked. I started out with gummy bears and then M&Ms. One for pee and two for poop. After a few accidents he now will go on his own but if he's wearing anything like loose pj bottoms (easy to get off) he'll sit on the potty and pee through them.

    So currently I'm at a loss. He won't wear underwear so I can't really start taking him out of the house without a diaper. I guess I'll just keep reinforcing and hope he comes around to the underwear but it's mentally exhausting.

    Some kids pick it up right away and some don't. At least that what I'm telling myself!!  lol   Good luck!

    It worked really well, but it took probably about five days for me to get the courage to take her out of the house.  It may be faster for your DD since she's older.  Good luck!

    I just read the link and it's very close to what I'm doing. I just never thought of going for a walk without a diaper before trying to actually go somewhere! Duh!  I'm all over this!!  Thank you!
