My dad just called me and asked if I would like to go to on a father daughter date tonight. My half sister is in town for 5 weeks, my half brother just had a baby and my little sister lives with my folks so he and I haven't really had any time together lately. We usually go fishing every summer together but with me being pregnant and all the other things going on in my family we just haven't had time. So he called and ask if I wanted to go the a baseball game with him tonight and of course I am super excited but I am wondering what to do about bug spray. We live in La Crosse, WI which is right on the Mississippi River and Logger's Field is right next to the river so I know it is going to go misquito crazy down there. We are also under a heat advisory for today so I know I am going to want to wear capris and a tank top but I really dont want to get eaten up. Any suggestions on what kind of bug spray I should use??
Re: Bug spray while pregnant?
I was told to avoid products with DEET in them. I use this with Picardin-it actually smells a lot better than a lot of bug sprays, too.

.
I have heard bounce sheets work but there are conflicting opinions on it. Also skin so soft from avon works as well. Last but not least OFF has that fan that clips on your belt. Then you don't actually have to spray on your skin but should repel the mosquitoes.
This!
There is so much conflicting info but my dr said using the one with DEET is okay as long as you are not using it everyday, day after day and to shower when you are done.
I haven't used any so far but will this weekend camping. For me any natural ones I've tried just don't work but I think I'm just a magnet for mosquitos....they work great for my husband. He also uses the Burts Bees.
I would try a natural one first without DEET and see how it works..
I have the Burt's Bees spray as well.

My mom once told me she had a friend who used a mixture of listerine and water. I have been using it ever since. It works wonders. I also spray around my bbq and fence with the mixture when I am going to have friends over for a bbq. It smells a little minty but who cares if it works. You also dont get that nasty bug spray feeling on your legs or arms. I plan on using it this weekend while out for the 4th.
really, he said to use a DEET-based product? im not second-guessing your doctor by ANY means so no offense intended but i was told the exact opposite because supposedly DEET can up your risk for seizures. Gah! i hate conflicting info, lol. if it worked and you didn't get bitten then i'd say it was sound advice. my allergist told me people omit pheremones that humans can't smell but that bugs can. some people smell tastier than others which is why some of us are more prone to getting bit. i am one that the bugs really love. i am always skeptical that the products that don't contain chemicals like DEET are ineffective so maybe i will try it.
Don't use Deet when you're pregnant.......
I hesitated to use it when it was just me, it's really harmful to your skin.
Yes. Since I was out of my first trimeseter he told me to use it. He also told me to make sure I showered before bed, but that the risks associated with mosquito bites are MUCH more harmful to your baby than using bug spray containing deet for a few days.

This was also given that I don't apply it daily, and was something I was using while avoidance to mosquitoes was not possible.
I'm assuming her Dr. told her to use DEET is b/c the risk of becoming ill from an insect in places like the DR is more serious than using DEET.
I use DD's California Baby bug spray from Target. It's pricy, but has lasted us forever.
