  • I have a KidCo PeaPod that is handy for the beach or parks or whatever.  Just an enclosed and shaded little spot for LO to nap.  It's like a miniature tent and it has an inflatable air mattress.  It pops right open.  I would definitely recommend a rash guard for more coverage from the sun and a hat, too.  I didn't see how old yours was but I would imagine he could go in the water with you holding him for sure.  Possibly even in one of those little raft things they can sit in if he is strong enough.

I am packing up for our first trip to the beach right now (well, uh, I'm typing on the internet right now - but five minutes ago before the computer sucked me in, i was packing ;) )

We also have a PeaPod that I have used as a "crib" for our babe to sleep in during the first 3 months when we had to stay in hotels for long weekends due to work travel.  It was great.  I am bringing it to the beach, but it doesn't have a lot of sun protection b/c of the open vents - and the box specifically notes that it does not offer sun protection.  So we also purchased a low sitting SPF 35 beach umbrella that will stake so that we can create a little shelter for him.

Other than that, I am bringing the Boppy so he has somewhere to sit up (he can't sit unassisted yet).  A large flat, hard quilt as a beach blanket for him to sit on.  Also, a bug band to put on his gear - we are told the mosquitos are really bad around the bay areas this year. I got one at Whole Foods that is for infants (ie. no toxic chemicals).  Also some long sleeve light terry cloth jumpers, a baby hat and baby sunglasses to keep him protected from the rays - which are much brighter at the beach.

We bought a baby life jacket b/c it was on sale and my mother plans to take him out on her boat when we visit her later in the year in Florida.  But I'm not keen on taking him in the water now.  Probably we will sit at the edge of the ocean and let him get his feet wet.  But I have this vision in my head of my husband holding him and wading into the water and him squirming and my husband dropping him and him floating out to sea.  It's total paranoia - my husband has never dropped him and he's not that squirmy - I realize I am being completely crazy about this, but even though I rationally know it won't happen, I also know I will have anxiety just watching the boys go near the water, and it's not worth feeling anxious on vacation.

  • So funny because I have the same fear about bringing my LO near the lake.

I have this totally irrational fear that if I bring him out on the dock with me someone might not see me holding the baby and push me in. I have this image in my head of him sinking and me not being able to find him in the dark waters.

Can't believe I admitted that out loud. Its totally a stupid fear but he won't be going near the dock!
