I have been having to nurse L to sleep these days and he had a really good 2 hour nap on his stomach a couple days ago. I was wondering how you put your LO on their stomach to sleep if they are awake. When I try that he goes up on his arms and gets frustrated. Do you have to wait until they are basically asleep? Or do you have to give them a bottle/nurse them to sleep and then put them down?
Re: Another ? for tummy sleepers
It depends on the night and how tired he really is. Sometimes we can put him in while he's drifting off and he'll be fine. Other nights we have to wait until he's totally out or he gets frustrated like you described. C has always slept on his belly though, so it's "normal" for him. I imagine transitioning from back to belly would be a little harder unless they're doing it themselves.
I'm pretty bad about giving B a bottle to get him to sleep. Trying to break that habit. But if he's not asleep after the bottle, I still put him in the crib awake. I just pat his butt/rub his back and if he's sleepy, he usually will doze off within a few minutes. 15 minutes is the max it's taken me to get him to sleep that way.
He might talk/fuss for a couple minutes, but he doesn't usually get too frustrated. If he does, I pick him up and calm him down, then try it again. I think he's getting used to falling asleep this way in his crib because I've noticed lately it's not taking me as long to get him to conk out.
Edited for spelling.
