I love baby wearing and have found strollers to be so inconvenient. Right now J likes a front carry outward facing position in the moby or k'tan. I'm trying to get him used to a back carry in the Ergo. How long were you able to use the Ergo into your pregnancy?
I also am wondering if it's realistic to expect to wear both kids next spring. The new baby in a cradle or kangaroo position in the moby and J in a back carry in the Ergo. Do any of you do this? Does it seem like it could work? I just wanted to check before I turn down a double stroller. I figure at the very least I can wear the new baby and put J in the stroller we have.
Re: Baby wearing ?
I wore DS in a back carry even at 7 months pregnant (not with an ergo, though).
I cannot imagine wearing both kids. I imagine that would get uncomfortable, especially since one will be substantially heavier than the other.
Do not turn down a double stroller if you can get one for free. You will find many uses for it. Babywearing in the summer is not fun. Both DD and I would have melted.
I think a double stroller is a must. I own a Moby and an Ergo and I'm all for babywearing, but sometimes you just need the double. Personally, I found it near impossible to wear DS when I was pregnant with DD.
I have carried DS and DD at the same time for very short periods of time in a pinch (crossing the street to get to the playground if DS won't hold my hand). There is absolutely no way I would plan to bear the weight of both of them on purpose.
I think a single stroller for one and wearing the other may work...but I would look into a double also. I love strollers. I also love carriers and have tried many. From when DD was born until about 6 months she loved sleeping in the ergo, it was great! but she was also born in June so I didnt wear her outside, so just at gymboree, or grocery shopping etc. Otherwise I used a stroller.
I think people can get away with no stroller and more than one kid when their kids are more like 2.5-3 years or more apart, not less than 2 years apart. My kids are 18 months apart and I needed a place to strap DS in when I needed to nurse DD in public, or when I needed a break from chasing him and when DD needed to be held.
