Carseats - what do you have, do you like it, etc?

I'm going to purchase another convertible car seat today because we need one for DH's car (tired of transferring our Britax back and forth constantly), and it'll come in very handy when DH's bro + family come visit this weekend.  They didn't want to haul their carseat across the country so I'm using this as a good excuse to purchase our second.

I'm tempted to go to resale and pick one up there - has anyone done that? Or is that a big no-no?

Anyone gotten a super inexpensive one that they like, and where?  TIA!

  • we really like our evenflo triumph advance.  we have it in DH's car and i prefer it to our marathon.  you can get them for about $100.

  • I'll buy almost any child item used, but I won't do a used car seat unless it comes from close family/friends.  Check out the Evenflo Triumph - we have one as a spare and I think it was about $140.  My only complaint about it is that the harness adjustment knob can be difficult to get to in some cars (like my husband's) but not everyone has that issue.  Otherwise, it's a great seat for the money and I like it as well as our Britaxes.

  • I agree w/ checking out the Evenflo.  That's our second carseat and I like it a lot overall. It is not as easy to adjust as the Britax - but it's a good seat and definitely worth consideration.
  • We have the Graco MyRide65.  I like it.  For me, it's relatively easy to put in the car.  It will hold L rear facing until 40lbs.  My only con is the straps get annoying when I put him in and have to fish them out from under him.

I bought a brown one on-line for under $100.  It was cheaper than normal because it was a color they were either discontinuing or an unpopular color.  I didn't care about the color.

  • I have the Evenflo Triumph Advanced and H-A-T-E it. HATE. Like with a passion. Did I mention I HATE it? It drives me batsh!!t insane every single time I use it. Why? It has a knob and release button system on each side of the seat in order to loosen the straps and they're a major PITA. The straps are constantly getting flipped/tangled which makes them impossible to tighten correctly/safely and very, VERY difficult to loosen too. The only way to fix it is to uninstall the seat, take the cover off and untangle the belts. This happens once a week. I did a lot of research and actually had this bought off my wedding registry over a year prior to using it, or else I would have taken it right back to the store. I honestly don't understand how other people love this thing - aside from it being safe and comfortable (and of course much cheaper than the Britax). Fortunately we only got one - I'm still using the Snugride35 in the other car as DD doesn't have any issue with it yet.  I've seen other Evenflo's that I'd love - that don't have those knobs/release buttons for the straps, and will prob get two of those soon. I'm also considering the Alpha Omega one that they have at Costco (Can't beat the price (90$). When I say this seat makes me crazy, it makes DH worse and it's in his car... Only reason we haven't replaced it yet is that we're too cheap and use my car more.
  • We bought a Graco MyRide65 for my mom's car. We have only used it a handful of times, but we like it and my mom has found it easy to use.
