Trying to Get Pregnant

9 day LP - Any advice? (TIA)

I'm now entering month four of this TTC business and just finished the first cycle temping.  I had a 9 day LP (with spotting showing up 8 dpo).  Is it possible that this is just a fluke cycle and I may have a longer LP next time?

I'm not planning on going to a doctor or anything yet, but I know from reading this board there are a couple of things to try.  What would you ladies do?  Temp another cycle and see if the 9 day thing is normal for me, or start looking for something to lengthen it right away?

Thanks for any advice :)

  • I would personally temp a few more months before doing anything. I had a random 8 day LP one of my first few cycles temping.  It might level out on it's own.

  • Chart a few more cycles.  You will see how long your average LP is.  This one could just be off a little.  If you have consistently short (less than 10 days) LPs, consult your doctor.

  • Looking at your CF data, you could be one of those women who take a couple of days for their temp to go up after ovulation. If that's the case, your LPs would look shorter than they actually are.  I agree with the others - keep charting for several cycles before you get too worried.  GL!

Thanks, all :) I think the combined stress of a longer cycle, CD1 and a shorter LP than expected made me a little panicky. I really appreciate your input and will spend at least another cycle temping before any more panic.

  • Hi Tazzal - I agree with the PPs who suggested temping -- and maybe using OPKs -- more cycles to see if it evens out a bit. I'd suggest calling your dr if you see three or more cycles in a row with short LP. If you're anything like me and antsy to read more in the meantime, search "Short LP" or "B6" (as in vitamin B6) in the search bar at the top of TheBump. GL!
