B6 for nausea?

My nausea seems to be getting worse in the evenings/around bed time these days. It is pretty miserable trying to get to sleep. My doctor suggested B6 with Unisom before bed. I think I am going to pick some up tomorrow. Have any of you tried this or heard about it for nausea?

Re: B6 for nausea?

  • I tried it with my last pregnancy, but my ms was al day and I would vomit 6 or7 times a day. My bff had ms more like you and she found it helpful.

My doctor suggested it as well. I took it for about 5 days and didn't really notice a difference.  My m/s comes and goes though.  I'll go days feeling fine and then, bam, it hits me hard.  I didn't want to continuously take the Unisom because I was afraid I'd start to rely on it to sleep.  I told my doctor this yesterday and he kind of chuckled :)

My chiropractor put me on a pre-natal mineral supplement that is supposed to help. I've been on it a week and this is the best week I've had with m/s.  I feel kinda sea sick every day but I've only thrown up once and I don't have that dreaded, horrid nausea that I had with DS.

  • I have a B12 deficiency and was on B12 vitamins prior to getting pregnant. When I asked my OB if I should continue taking them she said they were safe for pregnancy and would even help morning sickness. Maybe it is any of the B vitamins that are supposed to help?

I'm currently on Diclectin (only available in Canada apparently), and it contains B6. I have found that I don't feel nauseous at all!... however I'm still throwing up on ocassion, and there's no warning because I feel fine leading up to being sick, which leads to some really bad situations, ie projectile vomitting in your desk garbage bin.

It has really helped me function normally, but now I constantly have the fear that the vomitting will strike at any moment.

My doctor suggested the same thing if it gets bad, but also said that if it's consistently happening in the evening before bed that it's happening because my body needs rest and I need to try to get to bed earlier.  Of course, that makes it harder to sleep, so easier said then done. I know it's certainly not possible for everyone, but if you can go to sleep an hour or so earlier that might help.

  • I had read this a long time ago, so I've been on B6 for awhile. I take one a day with my prenatal. So far I haven't been sick ( fingers crossed)

  • It didn't do anything for me last time. I'm still on it, and have only had a little nausea, but I just think things are different in general this time. I still plan to stay on it though.

  • My doc said 50 mgs of B6 4x per day.  I'm taking, it's not a cure all, but it does help.  I'm afraid what it would be like if I wasn't taking it!

This is SO true! I was actually just telling my husband this today. Last week, I had been going to bed consistently around 9pm or even earlier, now this week the nausea hits around 9:30 and I can't get to sleep until like 1am. I probably just need to make myself go to bed earlier!
