I noticed tonight that 3 of my friends have FB friends (who I do not know) named Candida.  Am I the only person who recognizes that as the name of a yeast?  Maybe I'm just a nerd.  It does sound pretty otherwise.

    That's what I thought too. I know there are few Candidas in the area.

    There was a hit song in the '70s for Tony Orlando and Dawn called Candida.  I bet that's where their parents got it from, especially if they are in their 30s now.  I have a friend named Candia (missing the 2nd d) and it always reminded me of the song and not the yeast, although I did know that was a yeast name too.  Perhaps my subconscious associates person name with person name instead?

    first glace - someone spelled the country wrong.  I would struggle pronouncing it - never saw it as a yeast OR a name before...

    This. From what PPs have said it seems to be somewhat common, but I've never heard of it either way (and the baby name board is a guilty pleasure of mine :)

    Yes that is weird.  There is a gal in my district with that name and I always kind of wonder if she's had it rough because of that.

    There is a woman with that name I come across at work all the time....and every time I giggle in my head.  I think of her as the yeast lady.
