Springing for a new bed

After sharing a full-sized bed for the past three years, my husband and I are ready to get something bigger this weekend. (lots of holiday sales) With our first baby coming, I wondering if queen or king would be better. Anybody have any suggestions for what size and style of bed they prefer?
Edited because I am an English teacher and that's what we do.

I would opt for the king size bed. DH and I are planning on buying soon. We have a queen now. Between kids coming in our bed and/or our dogs it feels like there is never enough room. We are thinking a sleep number so we can adjust our "sides". My BFF and her DH have one and it was the most comfortable bed I have ever laid on.

  • Get a King, having the extra room is great (especially considering you'll need extra room the bigger your belly gets).  And we LOVE our TempurPedic.  Best bed ever!

  • We have a queen, but I would love a king! However, DH and I hardly ever sleep together since our schedules are opposite. If we were to get a new bed I would love a Sleep Number.

  • If and only if you have the room, spring for the King!!!  Get the bed that YOU TWO find the most comfortable!  My Mom ordered a bed for us because it came "highly recommended" with a lot of coils and price tag to match - and EVERYONE hates it because it's like sleeping on a board with a blanket.  OTOH, the bed that we sleep on at home was $350 for the set and super comfortable for us.  Choose one that the two of you like for sleeping.  I LOVE the tempurpedic beds but my DH HATES them because he overheats...  I didn't like the sleep number beds as much when we tested one out at a hotel - while the setting option is nice since DH & I like different firmness', it didn't feel as soft as I would have liked.

  • We have a Super King and it's the best money we ever spent! We can easily fit DH & I, DS, the cat and the dog in full comfort, though we don't ;)

  • King!! We just purchased a queen last year and will be getting a king very soon.

  • I'd go king if you have the space.  That's what DH and I are going to do once we move to a bigger house.  As for recommendations, my IL's love their sleep number.  The are so happy with it they actually bought the sofa sleeper version so any overnight guests can be comfortable too (pretty sure they don't make those anymore, though).  DH and I bought a new bed in January (full sized for now - it will be a guest bed once we move).  It's a Prana Mattress from their Lotus line (Lotus being more affordable)  It's all foam, so no coils (coil-free mattresses are supposed to last longer) but we found it to be more forgiving than the TempurPedics that we tried.  We've had it almost six months and it is so comfortable.

  • King size Sleep Number bed.  It's awesome for pregnancy since you can adjust the setting if the bed starts feeling too soft or too hard.  I love mine and will never get another brand.

The Sleep Number beds in hotels are different than the ones you buy in the store (they don't even sell that particular model).  It will take a few nights of sleeping on it to find your correct "number", but the nice thing is that you can adjust it!  I've had one for 8 years and I highly, highly recommend them :o)

I'd go for the king size if it can fit comfortably.  We had plenty of space at our old place and when we moved the bedrooms were smaller but it still fits, just a little tight.  Sure does come in handy when we have 2 100lb labs that like to sleep with us majority of the time!

  • if you have the space, you will NOT regret getting a king.  To this day it is one of the best things we've bought for our house.

  • Yet another vote for a king.  We bought a queen when we got married thinking that it would be more than enough room (and, being a military family, we never know what size our next bedroom is going to be). I can't WAIT to upgrade to a king - we absolutely need the extra space.

  • I'm voting for the king. When DH and I upgraded from our full two years ago, I couldn't convince him to get the king (plus we wouldn't have had room in our teeny tiny apartment) but I really wish I had one now. Our queen is nice, but now with the extra pillows I'm sleeping with it's a bit cramped. We have a Sterns & Foster mattress and it was the only brand that we could both agree we liked (DH likes a firmer mattress, I like softer).

  • If you can afford it, you should go for the king. DH and I have had a queen for a few years now and we are constantly bumping into each other. We're definitely getting a king when we move next year.

  • Thanks for all of the input! Looks like the king sized sleepnumber is winning most people's votes. Hopefully there will be some good deals this weekend.
