Moms with Reflux babies... Help!

I have the bassinet at an incline. I've tried the swing. He is on Zantac. Despite all of this, the only place my LO sleeps comfortably for more than an hour or so is in my arms. Any place else and he sounds like he is going to choke in his sleep. Any suggestions? I've considered the carseat, but is that safe for sleeping?

  • You might check out a rock and play sleeper.

On a side note.  What bottles are you using?  Dr. Brown's are the best for reflux.

  • Thanks. I'll look into a rock and play.

To answer your question, he's exclusively breast fed right now. The couple of times we've used the bottle, we've used Avent. He seems to do well with them.

  • The sleeping in your arms is pretty much a normal newborn thing. I'm sure a little bit of it has to do with the reflux, but a lot of babies only sleep long periods of time in someone's arms.

I have a baby carrier that I wrap DD up in so that I can get some stuff done when she doesn't want to be put down.

I also agree with PP, we have a rock and play sleeper and she does wonderfully in this!!!

  • so far this is my system: she takes zantac in the morning and evening. she has a bottle when she wakes up. i feed her at an incline and she says in an upright position for 20-30 mintues after eating (usually play with her legs and sing songs or the alphabet), then check diaper/re-swaddled and hold while walking for another 10 (ped wanted a total of 30 minutes at a 45 degree angle after feedings). then, if she's sleeping or not...i put her down in her crib or pack'n'play. she may cry after 5-10 mintues. i will only let her do that for 2 mintues (sometimes she cries for like 30 seconds and then falls asleep so i make sure it's a true cry) and then i'll pick her back up and walk slowly around the room. she usually nods off and i put her back down. she may wake up again but usually she'll half cry and i can tell it's not a real wake up. i just started this new system and it's working REALLY WELL!! i also started using SwaddleMe blankets with the "escape proof" method and that made a difference too. she won't take a pacifier yet so no help there but i read reflux babies it helps with. also, my ped wanted her to sleep in her carseat but i heard it's a hard habit to break and so far, i haven't had to use that option...

  • Has the doc told you to let your baby sleep on it's tummy b/c of reflux?  They did for DS1---- and it worked.  He'd at least sleep for a little while.  We also had the angelcare monitor--which helped me feel better about making that switch.
