What type of swimsuit does your little girl wear?
I put DD in a 2 piece rashguard suit for more coverage, both from a sun safety standpoint and from a modesty standpoint. (I know I can be more conservative than most.)
But I just wondered what others do. One piece, bikini? If they are not in a bikini now, when do you plan to introduce/let them try?

Re: Moms of toddler girls
1 pieces and swim shirts w/ bottoms. I don't dig baby bikinis, although I love baby bellies. I never wore bikinis growing up (until MS when I asked for one, then my mom let me wear it in our backyard only) and am no worse for the wear.
And, ftr, I think that baby bikinis with triangle tops or other things that imitate adult suits are awful.

She wears a one piece.
I will not let her wear a two piece as it isn't very modest.
My DDs wear tankinis. I like the full coverage since they look like a full piece but it makes diaper changes so much easier! I don't know when I will let them wear bikinis, I think I started in Jr High so maybe then. I've never really thought about it.
my read shelf:
Both. Either. I prefer the easiness of two-pieces for dealing with swim diapers and/or taking my preschooler to the bathroom mid-swim. DD2 has a couple of one-pieces, and a two-piece she inherited from DD1 that is a long-sleeve rash-guard with little shorts.
DD1 does swim lessons and she's either in a tankini, a short-sleeve rash-guard with shorts, or a one-piece.

DD wears a rash guard and swim diaper mostly due to being super pale and it is easier to apply sunscreen on a smaller area. If we are indoors swimming or it is not too sunny, then she wears a 1 piece.
I do not like baby/toddler/girl bikinis, so she does not have any.
Almost all of Tegan's suits this year are hand me downs and she has about 8 different suits, lol! One of them is a rash guard short sleeve top and "diaper cover" type bottom. If we're going to be in the sun all day, this is the one she wears, since it covers the most skin. However, we've only spend one full day in the sun this year and we'll probably only have 1-2 more full days in the sun.
All of the other suits are one-piece, except for one bikini. She's worn all of the suits, except for the bikini. I'm just not a fan of the bikini... don't really have a reason, except that there is more skin exposed.
I actually think that I'll be more strict about bikinis, the older she gets. It's one thing for an 8 year old to be wearing a bikini, but an entirely different matter for a developing teenager to be wearing a skimpy bikini.
This is DD too.
She has a 1 piece that she's just about grown out of, and two shirt/bottom sets (one has a skirt-type bottom and the other has shorts).
I don't like how most bikinis look on babies/toddlers/kids and they aren't practical for us.

DD always wear one pieces- no rash guard for her, sorry I don't think they are cute- I make sure DD wears lots of suncreen- it helps that she just doesn't burn. Even in Mexico she didn't burn.
She had a bikini, but I don't like it, because the top is always riding up and I have to keep pulling it down. I would let her start wearing one around 11 or 12.

UV protection is important for me because DH is really fair and tons of sun damage from when he was a child. I want DD covered up!

She has bikini's and one pieces from ON & Gap. Aveeno face bar is AMAZING, never has had a burn.
she has a two piece that is bikini bottom w/ a shirt/rash guard top and a one piece that I put a rash guard over that happens to match it well even though they didn't come together.
it's for sun not modesty. I think some 2 piece suits can be cute on little girls, as long as theyre not mini versions of what an adult woman would wear. MH is neurotic about them getting sun- seriously, our kids are the only non-babies at the beach or pool wearing hats & he won't let them go in without hats even with sunscreen slathered all over. LOL.
ETA the diaper changing & getting htem out of the suit is a million times easier in the 2 piece so I do really prefer 2 pieces. When they have splash day at DC I always send her in her 2 piece one to make it easier for the teachers to change her.
We have used a regular swimsuit style suit, and when we were at the beach, we used the surfer style, it was just a one-piece, but we have 2-piece surfer style suits too.
I'm more concerned with coverage than modesty at the moment, but having said that, never plan on putting her in a bikini.
