Tailbone Pain

My tailbone (at least I think that is what it is) is extremely senstive and hurts when I sit. Is anyone else experiencing this? It kind of feels like a bruise right where my butt crack begins (sorry no other way to describe).

Re: Tailbone Pain

  • do you sit a lot during the day?  It could be a pylonital (spelling?) cyst.  It is a cyst that grows on the tailbone (in the butt crack).  With being pregnant, and having all kinds of other things going on, this could be the issue.  I had one when I was in high school and they are PAINFUL!  They are kind of like a zit, and come from blocked glands, etc. A doctor would have to take care of it.  If it doesn't go away in a few days, I say either try using a mirror to see if there is anything there, or call a doctor.

  • I've been having this since about 10 weeks. I started to blame my sciatic nerve because it feels more so like that. My u/s Monday revealed that my baby boy has dug a nice little comfy spot into my back and does not want to budge from it. Therefore that is when the sciatic pain is coming from. I even asked the doc last week and he said it will more then likely get worse and its just a part of pregnancy lol.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I've been having tailbone pain for a few weeks now, and it keeps getting progressively worse. I've tried mixing up what I'm sitting on, and nothing seems to help.

I'm wondering if my problem is similar to Lexie Marie's...I have a tilted uterus so the baby must be in my back. I've yet to really "tilt" forward, so hopefully I'll get a little relief once my uterus rights itself.

  • This is me! I've had this pain for several weeks now. I spoke with my doctor and she said that it's normal. Unfortunately, she didn't have any suggestions for me. However, I noticed that if I get up every 30 mins -1 hour, it's not as bad. Also, I bought this pillow for my work chair which can help a little bit.

  • I had that from weeks 8 - 9, it was horrible and felt like I had fallen down a flight of stairs on my butt. Getting up/down hurt, sitting hurt, walking hurt, everything hurt! Mine cleared up after about a week, so hopefully yours won't last long either!

  • I agree with the first poster... It could be a pilonidal cyst.  I had one for years that I had to (TMI) get drained... I would put it off until it got so painful!  I finally had to have surgery to get it removed.

If the pain continues for a few more days, definitely go to the Dr. and have it checked.  The longer you put it off, the worse it gets.

I had a pilonidal cyst a couple years ago. It was so bad they had to operate the remove the cyst that was on my spine. Very painful! It's still a very sensitive area so I completely understand the pain. If you check for swelling and redness and big knot, call your doctor for ways to treat.

  • I asked my doctor about tail bone pain and he said it was just due to my pelvic bone widening, so our tail bones are just adjusting to the new space we have to make room for the baby.
  • i looked with a mirror (tmi) & i didn't see anything. if it was a cyst would i see something??? it feels more like a bruise. i bought a donut to sit on & It does feel a little bit better with that.
