(Beware. This is a vent disguised as a plea for help.)
The past week or so, Charlie has gone back to waking up at midnight, 3am, and 6am screaming. He acts hungry and gladly eats, but I just can't possibly believe that he is THIS hungry. Some of it is teething for sure, but I feel like if he was in pain, eating wouldn't calm him like it does. I've tried just rocking him back to sleep, but he roots, shakes his head, and cries.
Last night, for instance, he breastfed at 5pm, ate 8 ounces(!) of baby food at 5:30pm, breast fed again at 7:30pm and got a 4 ounce bottle of formula at 8pm. All that is probably more food than I ate for dinner!! Then, he was up screaming to eat at midnight. He BF at midnight, BF and got 3 ounces of formula at 3am, and BF at 6am and 9am.
Am I missing something here? WTF is going on?!
And please don't tell me its another growth spurt. This kid is 8 months old and has a lot of growing to do in the next 20 years or so. He has hit every single growth spurt for his adjusted age AND his actual age.
If this is how he is going to act as he grows, just send me to the looney bin right now.
Re: Apparently, I have a newborn again.
I can also offer ::HUGS::
I can't explain what O went through from week 10-ish to week 28-ish but all I can say is that it was like a switch was flipped and he went from waking every 90 minutes to eat to sleeping from 8:30pm-5:30am. I hope he never switches back!
OSC, since Sam was born a week after Charlie, I often watch the board to see what Charlie is doing b/c I know that Sam is going to follow soon. (Like teething, sitting up, how much he's eating.)
I can only say that Sam is doing the same thing all of a sudden in the last week. I originally thought it was teething but Sam drinks 15-16 oz of formula before going to bed and then is up at 11:30PM, 3:00AM and again at 6AM and each time he's up, he screams and screams until I give in and give him a 7oz bottle. I have no idea what is going on.
It just so happened that Maury Povich had giant babies on his show yesterday and then I had a dream that I was on that show with Sam.
Hang in there!
Thank you. I need a hug. And a drink. LOL

sorry, no help, just sympathy.
Thank you for posting this! I've been going through the same thing the last 3 nights and am at a loss. He recently started roving/rolling ALL over his crib at night, so I thought maybe he was just waking himself up with that. But then he sucks down a whole bottle at midnight, which he hasn't done in two months.
If anyone has a clue what the deal is, please let us know. Having sleep snatched away from me just when I was starting to feel human again is seriously bumming me out.
Oh no!! Haha We're even neurotic in our dreams.
Isn't it amazing how much food they can fit in those little bellies of theirs?

I don't know how you feel about this, but...at Noah's 4 mo appointment the doctor told me to start letting him cry it out. He said, "If you woke up everyday at 3 am and got a cheeseburger and a massage, wouldn't you continue to wake up everyday at 3 am?"

HAHA!! True! We do the whole 5 minute fuss thing for naps when he's fighting it and he responds really well to it. My worry is that he actually IS hungry for some reason. I don't know how its possible, but who knows. This might be the next step though. Its getting crazy!

That was my main concern for letting him CIO, but the pedi said he will make up what he's not eating at night during the day. He also suggested giving him a set amount (say 4 oz) then the next night give 3 oz, then 2 oz, etc. Just a suggestions. But GL!
I know you don't want to CIO with an underweight child. So hugs...'cause I don't really have advice for you!
You can take this with a grain of salt, seeing as how I have a baby who rarely medically STTN, let alone actually STTN, but could you add some additional solids during the day? Maybe adding to his caloric intake would help.
Also, do you make your own food? How on earth can you keep up with 8 oz of solids?!?
Oh no!! She's got to be allergic to something. Poor girl (and poor sleepy Mommy).

William has never slept straight through the night (he usually wakes up for a bottle around 3) but this week has been awful. Last night he was up at 11 and 12, then I couldn't get him to fall asleep until 3. Then he was right back up at 5, then again at 6:45. I thought it was teething...or gas...or maybe a growth spurt...I have no idea at this point. I'm like the walking dead today.
I'm helping myself to one of those drinks in the picture up above.
WHAAAT? he was awake for 3 hours in the middle of the night? what do you do all that time?? i would cry. im sure my day is coming.
Yes, I make my own, but we have stash of jars as well. I make food for the cost effectiveness, not because I don't like jarred food. I'm cheap. lol For dinner, we give him 5-6 ounces of fruits/veggies and if he's still hungry we'll bust out a jar/tub.
We're working to move him from BM to formula, so I'm still trying to figure out what to feed him. This formula thing is HARD!

Yeah...that's about what I would do. If it weren't for Words with Friends on my iPod, I would go crazy sitting there feeding him in the middle of the night.

Well, the good news is that LO is back to normal now. Evidently he worked through whatever developmental spurt he was working on and is ready to take a break.
For those who haven't seen it, there is some good reference regarding sleep changes and development in this thread:
