Thrush (stupid dr office vent)

So I am pretty sure me and dd have thrush.  I noticed 2 days ago it looked like I was getting some yeast around my C/S incision so I started using nystatin on it (yeast was an issue my whole preg).  Then last night with dd night feeding my breast began to hurt so bad they continued through out the feeding and after til I finally took a tylenol 3 for the pain.  So today I call my ob and left a message that I thought I had thrush if someone could call me back.  My dr and her reg nurse are off today is off today so a random nurse called me back and said that they don't treat thrush and that I would need to see a regular doctor. I told her that since when did they not treat thrush when a patient has rediculous amounts of pain in her breast and a yeast infection around a c/s incsion.  She goes oh well I thought you meant it was in your mouth,  UGHHHH  So of course my dr is full tomorrow but she is gonna tell her nurse and maybe they can get me in tomorrow.  If not my 6w pp appt is on friday so we can take care of it then.  I don't think she understands the pain I am good thing I still have more tylenol.  But I do have a question I can still pump and give it to dd.  She gets some bottles of formula already so if I have to pump and dump I can but I would rather give it to her in a bottle.  Nursing right now is not an option.  (sorry that was kind of long)

Re: Thrush (stupid dr office vent)

  • go see your regular doctor if they can get you in sooner...or, can you go to the pedi. since it's affecting DD and feeding, I wonder if they'd rx something.

  • That is ridiculous. I am sorry you have to go through it, I know the pain! Maybe you can call your doctor/nurse tomorrow and they could just call you in another prescription. Yes, you can still breastfeed/pump. Thrush milk is fine to give to baby while you guys are being treated for thrush, but it cannot be frozen and given later (you risk re-introducing the thrush). After each breastfeeding/pumping session, rinse your nipples and areola in a vinegar and water solution (some places say 1:1 ratio, others say 1 Tbs vinegar in 1 cup water). Vinegar kills yeast. Let your nipples air dry and then you can put the nystatin ointment on them (safe for baby). Make sure you sterilize all bottles, pump parts and pacifiers really well. I also took probiotics and grapefruit seed extract. This website helped me the very most https://breastfeeding.hypermart.net/thrush.html Hope you start feeling better really soon!
