Hi- I have been lurking for a long time but have never posted on this board. My husband and I have been TTC for almost 2 years. In February he had 2 SA done which showed low count and concentration. The numbers they gave him were different then anything I have read on here but what they told him was they were looking for it to be 20 and he was at an 18...whatever that means. They recommended he see a Urologist. We had an appointment today and the guy was basically a jerk, he told him to stop taking Fertilaid for Men because he had never heard of it so it might do more harm then good, but he couldnt see anything to be causing the low numbers and recommended we see a specialist 2 hours away. I am just looking for some advice on what we should do, I just want to treat the problem not go from doctor to doctor to figure out why. I think that I have read on here medications he could possibly take? Thanks so much for any insight you could give.
Re: MFI- advice needed
Sorry about your bad uro appt. - what tests did the urologist do? Mine did a physical exam, bloodwork and an ultrasound. They don't give out meds to take unless they determine something is wrong (such as low testosterone). For us - there was nothing physically wrong with my husband (other than his low SA numbers) - so there is really not much a urologist can do.
What is the specialist 2 hrs away that he recommended you see?
Dx: PCOS and MFI
3 IUIs, 4 IVFs = BFFN
3rd RE: IVF #5/FET = BFP

My DH's uro did the same tests. If that guy was a jerk, then maybe the specialist will be good. DH sees a uro that specializes in MFI and he is AMAZING, but we are lucky that he is here. I am sorry yours is 2 hours away but it might be worth it. I would definitely ask about IUI.
TTC since March/April 2010
DX: MFI - less than 1 million sperm, 26% motility
DH put on anastrozole to increase counts
June/July 2011 100 mg Clomid + TS IUI#1 & IUI 2 - BFN :-(
Forced break due to DH getting spinal surgery in August 2011
IVF - January 2012: BFN
FET in April 2012 - BFP at 6dp5dt! Beta #1 at 9dp5dt: 82.5, Beta #2 at 12dp5dt: 352 Beta #3 at 19dp5dt: 6000, saw heartbeat and one little bean at 5W6D!
After nearly 3 years of waiting our LO was born December 18th 2012!
The other girls have great advice. If 18 million is his total count, it's a bit on the low side, but not out of IUI range by any means.
I would make sure the uro you see specializes in MFI. He should to a physical exam to check for varicoceles, etc, a prostate exam, blood work and his own SA.

It sounds like 18 million is his concentration, so it would mean 18mil/ml. It should be 20 so it's a bit low but not too bad. You can definitely work with that.
If you can see an RE they might be able to recommend someone they work with. Fertility urologists are very knowledgeable and ours helped us out a lot. Good luck hon.
