A little bit of background- DH and I have been actively TTC (charting etc) for coming up on 14 cycles. We didn't avoid for 1 year before that. Our active TTC time was punctuated by a year long deployment, so it hasn't been consecutive. (Deployment was Jan-Jan.)
Last year at my routine OB/GYN appt. I expressed my concerns to my Dr., and she said we would revisit the topic if I wasn't pregnant before my next yearly appt. since I was 27 and healthy. At the beginning of this month I had my yearly and expressed my concerns again.
My Dr. said I shouldn't be worrying and that she doesn't want to do any testing because we haven't been trying to at least 12 consecutive months. I was frustrated, and made an appointment for Dec.
My temps have been dropping the past two days, so I am expecting CD 1 soon, and am feeling stuck. I can't change Dr's because our insurance (TriCare) is only accepted at this particular office.
I suppose I am just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, or has any advice/words of wisdom?

Re: Trouble TTC and no help from Dr?
honestly, I would probably find a new doctor. If you have 14 cycles charted with decent timing and nothing to show for it, that is cause to get some testing started. Being 27 and healthy does not mean something isn't going on that needs some attention.
Good luck!
TTC since 2010

I don't really have any advice I just wanted to say sorry about TriCare sucking...I know how it feels. I hate the base hospital I go to and definitely sympathize. I hope all goes better for you!
This! It drives me a little crazy when doctors tell a *charting* patient that they have to wait 12 cycles. The 12month "standard" is based on couples who are simply engaging in random acts of intercourse. If you're targeting those fertile phases and no pregnancy is occurring, the doc needs to start listening to your concerns. I know it's easy for the white coat to be intimidating, but the doctor is here to serve you, not the other way around!
I would definitely see an RE. According to my RE, one year of not preventing without a pregnancy is the definition of infertility, and it sounds like you fall into that category. I am not trying to freak you out, but you sound like me a year ago.
Can you get a referral to a fertility specialist? Usually all of the testing is covered even by moderate insurance plans, even if the treatment is not.
GL with whatever you decide!!

Since you cant change doctors, I would definitely keep requesting some testing. I went through something similar. I got off BC in march 2007. Between March and October I had 1 cycle. I had always had long, unpredictable cylces before BC too, so I knew something was up with my body. In October I ended up in the hospital with horrible pain in my abdomen - turned out to be a ruptured cyst. They did an internal u/s and said my ovaries were covered in cysts. So, I had to go to my doc for a follow up. He looked at the images and said I had PCOS. Told me it would make it hard to get pregnant and put me at a higher risk for cancer. Then told me to come back in a year if I wasn't pregnant. Really? You just told me I have a condition that makes i hard to get pregnant, but won't help me for a year?
I immediately went to a new doctor who was dumbfounded that he would diagnose me with PCOS without doing any testing. She did some basic bloodwork that showed I have a hormone imbalance that causes my long cycles, but I do NOT have PCOS. She had me immediately start charting and was sending me for further testing, along with DH. She was going to start something my next cycle to help me ovulate. We got pregnant that cycle and I really think its because she took the time to explain what was going on with my body and showed me how to chart (the other doc told me absolutely not to chart). Good luck to you!
Thank you all so much for your advice- I am planning to call my OB/GYN's office tomorrow to request either in office testing or a referral to an RE.
I hope I will get some answers soon!
