copper IUD

Does anyone have one? I think I may try one just to find out what my body does without hormonal interventions. I have been on the pill for over 10 year so I don't know what my body normally does on its own.

Re: copper IUD

  • I'm getting this at my appt. I don't react to hormones well, plus I'm BFing, and I am so over taking the pill.

  • I am getting one in two weeks and I am looking foreword to not having to take a pill or be on a bunch of hormones.

Just an FYI my OB does not do them anymore because of how expensive it is for him to get them, I have to go to the local health department in order to get it.

  • I too am getting one at my 6-week PP appointment because I'm kind of paranoid about hormonal birth control while breastfeeding.  I've never had one before, but my SIL had a pretty good experience with it - only problem was somewhat more irritating periods.
  • does the copper one work like the plastic mirena one cause I heard some bad things about it.  Because a friend of mine's sister  had one in and got pregnant but because of the IUD it was in the tube and she actually lost that whole tube because of it. Plus it can puncture your wall and all that. I donno I was just worried that's why I didn't get one anyone know about all the side effects stuff???

honestly, the worst I have heard from women who have it is cramping and heavier periods. Since 90% of my cycles I don't ovulate that doesn't concern me to much. Also, I think you are taking a risk no matter what BC you take, so I'd rather have something that I don't have to worry about since we are done having kids and my health can't afford an "oops" baby. But that is just me.

  • I'll be getting this in a few weeks too!  I think it's a better option for me, no more hormones to deal with when you use the pill.  I also like that it uses your bodies normal cycle!
