Briggs is 3.5 weeks now and suddenly is MISERABLE at night. He has been a major grunter since day 1, but lately his grunting seems to be accompanied by pain or discomfort?
He acts fine during the day... some grunting here and there and maybe a little spit up after each feeding, but he'll sleep and be happy otherwise. As soon as night falls he turns into this grunting/crying/thrashing little baby. He looks and acts like he's in so much pain! I tried gas drops after all of his feedings yesterday and those didn't seem to help at all. We also tried having him sleep in his bouncer last night, which he LOVES, but he was still miserable in that and would not sleep.
What could this be?? I'm waiting for the ped to call me back. His symptoms include: grunting, crying, thrashing around, turning bright red, NOT sleeping at night, runny stool, a little bit of congestion at night, and spitting up more than usual.
Is this acid reflux? Gas? Food allergy (he's breastfed)? Am I missing something all together?? HELP!
Re: Grunting/Groaning/Crying ALL night. What gives?
Is he pooping ok? That would be my first thought..Your bfing right? I would watch/write down everything that you are eating and then eliminate things see if that helps with the grunting..Caffiene, chocolate, too much dairy can be hard for them to digest..
Jake was also a big grunter at that age. He had a "tight butthole" I know funny right..DH and I both laughted when we heard that one. The Pedi had to "expand it" it wasn't fun but did help.
Second thought would be that it's kind of the beginning of acid reflux. which Jake also had but didn't really develop until he was like a month and a half. But I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet. Unless he is projectile vomiting or screaming like the exercist during every nursing/feeding session...I would start with eliminating foods and then call the pedi and see about his little tushie..
Hope that helps! Those first few weeks are so hard but it DOES get easier.
My first thought was gas followed by reflux.
Hopefully the pedi will have some helpful ideas.
ditto the others...also maybe a little cold..you said he is congested and it gets worst at night..hope the pedi can help and he is better soon!
